Does a Diablo Cam 2.3 Have to use a card to work?

This is a request from a knowledge-free Satellite newbie...

Before I even bought a satellite system, I bought a Diablo CAM 2.3 & CAS3 programmer off ebay without really knowing what I was getting/doing.

Somewhat naively, I thought that (if pointed to the same sat, say, Astra 28.2E), it would simply pull in more channels than the receiver alone would do...I then read that "The Diablo will not open any channels on ASTRA 28.2E" so I would HAVE to use a second or motorised dish to point to a second (or more) satellite(s) to gain more channels. Fair enough.

THEN I read that people are putting $ky cards into their Diablos to view paid for channels (although, I can't see the point if you already have it)...

But, if the above beliefs are correct, this does beg one further question....

Do I HAVE to use some form of card in the Diablo or can one be used as they come (loaded with,say, the latest Underworld) to open extra channels on, say, Astra 19E etc?

I'm not really bothered about getting into lots of dodgy (or legit) cards and so it could be that, buying it a bit ahead of myself, it may be of no real use to me.

I did say I was naive...

im not expert on Cams mate but i do know hardly any channels open via them these days, certainly nothing of worth.. most channels have gone over to more secure encryption

the only thing open of worth mate is canal nl on 19.2 east..with latest underworld file...it maybe of use in the future again,but until then mine,s in the drawer..

You do not need dodgy card's m8,the diablo will open up digitv on 1 degree west [film's sport series ~~~~ etc] also some channel's on astra 19 degree's using the latest firmware [181] and the latest key's bin..there are other sat's it will open channel's up for you but at the moment, most people are using them two.. you do not say what sat receiver you are using [it cannot be a s*y box] as it would not work!!..If you come back with a little bit more on what you are using eg.. what sat receiver and dish size you have i'm sure there are member's here that could help you set your system up..
