    Hotbird no channels

Hi guys hoping someone can help me

Installed a second dish today for hotbird. Got it lined up and the satellite finder gave a good signal.

Tried to do a scan for channels and nothing comes up.

I have a VU+ duo running VIX and have hotbird connected to the second input and sky to the first. Set the second input to 13 E and done an auto scan and nothing found although the sat finder app built in to vix is indicating a strong signal.

    Thanks

clearly it didnt line you up on hotbird, or any satellite if you have scanned and found no channels

if I line up a dish, I use a box with a preset channel list and ensure that I get an fta channel listed on the sat I set up on , the cheap sat finder just tells you when you have a strong signal but doesnt tell you which sat its pointed at

Crap well that would explain it . Although I done a check on my box as well and the signal finder built into vix is reporting a strong signal or can I just ignore that?

The Cheap signal finders will beep at every slight few mm movement you make when you swing the dish round as they are designed to pick up signal power and not actual SNR so every satellite has signal power so it picks everyone up.

you would be better doing what ramjet has explained and using a pre-made channel list with Hotbird in choose a channel that has a unique frequency that is not used on neighbouring satellites to the east or west which would be 10? east and 16? east

If you have a smart phone you can use Enigma Signal Meter on an iphone or android device turn on wi-fi and connect to your duo via the ip address this will now act as a better signal meter with both AGC and SNR displayed for your chosen satellite

Use 10723 H 29900 3/4 on Hotbird as this frequency is not used on either 10? east nor 16? east

Tried it there and no channels so dish must be way off will have a go at aligning it again when I get a chance during the week and my bouquet maker has sky italia in it so will get a bouquet made up and point it at fta channel to test when I realign.

Hi. Why dont you try and do a blind scan as this will scan whatever satellite you may be on and if it finds any channels you can identify which satellite you are on. If the blind scan does not find any channels then it means you are not on any satellite and will need to realign your dish. Good luck.

                        no need to mess about

backup your channel list with dreambox edit

then load in a catseye list with hotbird listed and use that for alignment , you can go back to your own channel list if you wish to after aligning the dish

the only sat that uses a 23000 symbol rate is [email protected] were the uk channels are... so from behind the dish move it to the right and upwards using the txp 10.723.h.29900 as @digicon said, regards mdt
