    Newbie wanting advice on box

Hi. I am new to this so not sure what all the terminology means. I would like to replace my sky+ HD box with a new satellite receiver and cancel sky subscription.
My requirements are HD, 7day EPG, record one channel whilst watching another, schedule to record programmes in the future like sky plus, series link (believe dreamboxes have autotimer functionality? which is kind of similar).
I don't know what box to get, looking for a clone as don't want to spend too much. Not sure what SIM card means and that's bandied about a lot. Also not sure how hard it is to set everything up. Is there a guide somewhere. And would a DM800HD do everything I need?

    Thanks

no because it only has one tuner and you require 2 tuners or more, so like a sly plus box

so the vu duo or solo 2 or duo 2 or tm twin or gigablue will do the job

    read this http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...er-buy-392295/

    also this thread too http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-setup-301108/

Thanks. I wanted a dreambox as they seem to have the biggest community. Which dreambox has twin tuners. On a bit of a budget so VU are a bit dear.

actually the VU probably has the biggest community now as the dreamboxes are old school and the dm800 has not been made by DMM for maybe 5 or more years

so a gigablue or tmtwin or vu duo would be a good buy , despite what you think

as for the dreamboxes, the dm8000 had the ability for multiple tuners but is wayyyyy out of your price range even if you decided to buy one and can find one as they stopped production 2 years ago, so that leaves the 7020 HD V2 at over ?500 as their twin tuner box

The soon to be realesed Gigablue quad plus would my top choice from owning the original quad. If ur tight on money look into the amiko alien 2 it will do what ur asking at ?150. Despite what people think it's not a bad box I have one as a second box had no problems with it on the hyperion v3 image

but remember if a box lacks support it sucks, funny a vu solo2 has the best support when buying an original, remember if you buy cheap you may end up paying twice.

Thanks, what is the support like for the gigablue boxes? As above, not looking for awesome spec as I probably wont do half the things you guys do. Just need to be able to do the above and need it to be reliable. Thanks. Any recommended sellers for either vu or gigablue boxes? And if I went for an older vu duo rather than a solo2, out of date tech? Or OK? Sorry for all the questions!

If you can afford Vu+ Duo then it's definitely going to be the way to go. It has official support from near enough everything and is generally considered to be a really stable and good all-round piece of kit.

If you just want something that will do the job then you can get a Cloud Ibox 3 or GigaBlue or something but they do leave a lot of troubleshooting up to your own patience and the kindness of volunteers on forums like this one. Be careful if buying an older Vu because the big sellers often don't stock them any more and most of the ones I've seen on Ebay are clones.

i have a VU+Solo2 and it is a fantastic box - but i understand that if you are on a tight budget ?80 extra is a lot of money, but you get what you pay for,and buying cheep sometimes ends up costing more

i have done it in the past and regretted it so if you can, try and save up a little bit more and i would Recommend STAYING AWAY FROM CLONES, you can buy a NEW Original VU+Duo for ?209 delivered from Wos and like DigitalGhost says they have loads of support so you can usually get a answer to any problem

i have seen vu+solo2 clones being sold for only ?60 less than a original is it really worth saving 60 quid for a copy that might Blow up next week

the's are just my views and some people will disagree
