    Build my own fiberglass dish

Build my own fiberglass dish I'm interested on building my own fiberglass dish. I have read for the last 4 days everything in the internet to no avail. Thanks for your coop.....I know,....... it will be cheaper and better to buy it, but I'm a crazy tester with nothing better to do, but to wait for the N3 to be fixed. Thanks again.

ive seen pic of a umbrella used as a dish so carry on looking and testing .

7w and a 50" fishing umbrella who said keys was a waste of time

its almost impossible, the dish has be done to fractions of a milimeter to reflect the signal properly to the lnb..

you would need some serious machinery, then a dish that size needs to be petalised, also fibre glass doesnt reflect satellite signals too well

You need more than just fiberglass as you need a reflective surface, Fiberglass is not reflective ! a metal foil is normal layed close to the reflective edge on plastic coated or other satellite dishes ! if its not a standard satellite dish bought from a normal satellite store .

To get the focal point on a satellite is a very precise measurement and can only be got using specialists equipment and a good head in applied mathematics you are very unlikely to receive anything on a home made Dish !

Back in the day of Analogue transmitions it would have been possable due to the wide signal sent from the satellite even a dust bin lid would have worked , but today with Digital signals its a very tight beam been sent and the focal point has to be spot on in relation to the curve of the dish and position of the LNB!

Forget it ! a normal 80cm dish will cost you no more than 15 Quid up to and over a 100 quid for a good model, if its a hobby you are after try something like feed hunting better than this idea ! and far better than model trains

          Regards:

I hate feeds, by the time you scan the transponder the feed has moved !

              Build my own fiberglass dish

Hi there: Thanks to all for repling. I had retired to the Dom. Rep. (between Cuba / Puerto Rico) from the State and seeing people making dish antenna without equipment. I bought a 6 footer home made dish and I'm using it for sat 119 / 110. Signal and quality above 89 on both sats. I used fiberglass to copied the dish antenna that I bought, but when I tried to add mesh (wire(reflector)) to it, hell broke loose. Unable to keep the mesh in place. I'm suppose to place the mesh in between two layers of fiberglass. I'm planning on using wire to hold the mesh in place and then add the second layer of fiberglass. The fucus point is (about) 0.75 x diameter or 72 inch x .75 = 54 inches from the center. Furthermore, the dish that I'm using is 20 degree off center. It will continue.....The training that I got 45 year ago in the USAF (electronic)are coming handy
