hi guys im a total newbie to this game but we all gotta start somewhere - my problem is I have a maxx 80cm dish with technomate tm2300 motor with a second hand dreambox 500s - now im sure I have set the dish to latitude and south pointing - but when in the setting I move the dish to astra to scan for channels the dish moves to 34 degrees east not 28 -- but when I move it back to 28 deg manually by stepping the motor I can get 460 channels of astra - I have set my latitude/ longtitude correctly in my location which is 55.88 north/ 4.24 west for north Glasgow Scotland is there still something im not doing right ? - thanks in advance
newbie with motorised problems any help appreciated

Sounds like the Whole assembly is not pointing to true south, forget about what the Markings say on the motor as 0.8? west is not directly on '0' on the motor this marker is for your true south setting and as your @ say 4? west of due south so when you set the motor up and goto 0.8? west the motor should click back a little to the east to allow for your west setting.
when you then go to 28.2? east it should be around 33-34 on the marker scale due to your Lon & Lat details, Again take no notice of the scale on the bottom side of the Spigot arm and concentrate on the Latitude settings on the motor which should be set to say around 56? and then adjust your dish accordingly and ine up on 0.8? west and go from there.

I have a slight problem with 0.8 west as I have an neighbors tree in the road of that signal but I have an first strike fs1 meter that I have borrowed so will try with that - would it be possible to tell the motor to go to 28.3 then line the dish up with the meter ? - thanks for replyingComment

When using USALS you can send the dish to any satellite you wish and line it up on that one, all i am saying is do not take a blind bit of notice to what the scale says underneath the motor and concentrate on getting it aligned correctly so that it tracks the ARC

Hi A couple of points to help you
1) USALS - This is the automatic search function of satellites. It uses the SAT POSITION figure in your receiver to move the motor to figure on the motor dial ie Hotbird 13 east it will move motor to around the 13 east mark on the dial. If its Astra 28.2 it will move to 28.2 etc etc. It also uses your location figures to track the arc correctly. You need to set it up on the first satellite correctly and it will then know how far away each satellite is from one another. You may need to tweak your dish angles or LNB skew to bring in the signals as you go along.
2) The 1.2 motor function is a manual search and store function ie you will need to find each satellite yourself and store their positions one by one.
Its always best to use USALS in my opinion as its quick and accurate as long as you line it up correctly on the first satellite(any satelliegin with). Take it from me its very simple to do but may require a bit of patience.
Good luckComment

Your Using the wrong image for a Motorised setup, Dont get me wrong Commando is by far and away the best image for the DM500s if your using a Fixed dish on 28.2? east as the guys fine tune everything in the image for that satellite.
Try another image and go from there.Last edited by digicon; 20 April, 2014, 15:05.
