    Westkill,

They are an update to the original Quad receiver that when it first came out it was advertised as having some features that where actually not present on the original Quad such as the Gigabit LAN etc...

Support is not bad OpenPLi and the OE-Alliance Teams Vix, OpenAAF, OpenRSI etc... the only one your missing is Blackhole if you can live with that then this is in affect a Vu Solo2 but with 2 fixed tuners and 2 Plug & Play.

If you asked me to choose which out of the Solo2 or the Quad+ then it would be the Quad+ just for the fact you can stick a cable tuner in there if you know what i mean :-)

    Regards

thanks digicon i guess the price works out about the same as a solo2 original by the look of it
and i guess its the normal enigma2 structure on these boxes and no driver update issues
      thank you

i'm thinking of getting either this or the duo2
going for once and for all in - one off upgrade (for the next for years anyway )

the advantages of the quad over the duo2 is the extra tuner - so you could get 2 x cable tuners and 2x sat and the price is significantly lower. You could get 6 sat tuners in a duo2 - apart from being overkill with 6 tuners, each twin sat tuner would cost around ?70

the duo2 might have better support for images and better hardware (with hardware/driver support)? with a box with so many tuners i might make more use of the hardware based transcoding.... can the gigaquad do transcoding too?

Regardless I think the capacity for cable tuner might be more neccessary in the near future (particular HD stuff)

If i am not mistaken the Vu Duo2 only has 2 X Plug & Play slots which would allow for 2 X Twin Plug & Play Sat tuners making it 4 Sat tuners altogether, Basically the same as the Gigablue Quad+

I suppose you could also run a USB Sat Tuner making it 5, But if i recall there is a limitation somewhere in the Drivers for the VU's limiting it to 4 X Tuners not 100% on that but could be the case

              Yes, i think you're right.

In that case the gigablue quad leads to more flexibility in that regard as you could get two cable tuners and two sat tuners... Whereas i don't think vu make twin cable tuners.

If the quad plus works out as its supposed to, it will be a great machine. For just over ?310 it may be possible to get a fully loaded quad with 4 tuners from germany - seems a good deal when compared to the duo2 - although the duo2 will come with tons of support and definitely works whereas gigablue really need to ensure they get what they advertise working. Transcoding might still be an issue with them but i can live without it if the rest works.

                GREAT BOX GIGABLUE QUAD

Was recommended this box by digicon great box I love it I purchased it with four sat tuners wish I had got a cable tuner in replace of one of the sat tuners just due to the issues with pie channels as cable is not effected.
I have had no bad experience's with this box.

I'm running open atv on my plus with 4 euro sats on one input with an extra 28.2 on the other sat input and single cable feed working simultaneously to the extent where I have added extra hybrid bouquets my standard uk and euro e2 lists with the missing sat hd replaced with cable versions. For once atv is proving to be very very stable. The lads at vix may have lost a user with their delay in releasing an image for this box. I'll upload the combo lists when I get home
