    Newbie query :)

Hello to everyone. I've just signed up looking for a bit of advice. I've got a SkyHD dish installed from previous tenant and am going to order myself a receiver. I've heard bits about the F5s but not had any hands on experience. Is this the best option for UK use at the moment? Thanks in advance

i take it you know that a fixed dish will limit you
for choice, and that the satellite at 28e has started to
block there HD channels and the other chns will follow
in the future. and only be available with a official subscription
from the provider, i would suggest you look at a motorised system
then you will get the choice of thousands of channels from lots of satellites
i dont know anything about the F5 boxes but there are lot who use the technomate
boxes, i hope others offer you there view on which way to go so you buy the best
set up to get the most from whats available

Thanks for the reply. I just read a thread mentioning that . With a fixed dish I'm presuming i would still be able to receive Freesat channels when all the other channels are blocked? I'm just thinking its still a cheaper option than a FreeSAT HD recorder box.

Am I right thinking I can record and play other media from the f5s? mkv files etc? If I'm gonna get one for this purpose is the f5s best option? Plus I can watch extra channels in the meantime.

If you get a F5S and expect to do anything other than show you live tv without a lot of hassle then you're going to be very disappointed. If you just want freesat then buy a freesat recorder, far easier and far less messing about. If you want to be able to mess about with it and record then a linux box is your best option but of course the price can go up quite a lot. What i'm basically saying is the more you spend, the easier the box will be to use but the initial setup and learning of a linux box does take some time. I have a F5S box and it was reduced to bedroom 2nd box very quickly as I got very frustrated with it constantly freezing and messing up.

Pay the money and get a sat combo box you wont be sorry more flexible and you can have the best of both worlds sat and cable or all sat or all cable I paid out for the gigablue quad hd after paying out for a cheaper box which I now regret, but there are many boxes out there and help is always available on DK
