New box - advice on image and epg

Hi Guys, I recently purchased a Mediaart ultra 7 hybrid box (sat/android) which just aint doing the job it was intended to do (xbmc and sat in one box) - having issues all around (cant connect to nas through xbmc I think due to ipcam running but thats another post altogher) and only a pathetic now and next epg

SOOO.
I'm gonna grab a linux box instead and run xbmc separately in another box (maybe look at viewing sat box in PVR add on in xbmc but not a big deal)

Basically Im looking at the vu boxes or cloud box
Would appreciate any comments on the reliability of the cloud box vs vu as Im aware they are clones

Im looking for an image that will give me a solid, reliable, updateable 7 day epg (sky like preferable but stable and fast more important)

now and next is the correct epg on all of these boxes

the VU range use a plugin called crossepg (there are alternatives) to download the 24-7 epg and store it (mine uses a usb stick for storage)

personally I would not touch the clones , so a vu with blackhole or vix is fine , so a box like the solo2 or duo is also fine

So can any of the images available (openpli / vix / blackhole etc) all run various epg's

Wonder if Id be able to find a 7 day epg for my mediaart somewhere - awful lack of support out there for it

I would have thought that the above could all run crossepg or something similar , most linux boxes have some form of epg download plugin

definitely vix and bh , probably openpli too maybe others , but its all about the plugin for epg download , not the broadcaster as such

yeah all linux based (except my android box of course) but maybe some not epg's compatible with certain images. Think Im def gonna go for the vu+ as regards brand -

some plugins wont be compatible with some images either , or boxes , also depends if the box is E1 or E2 as well

crossepg works well on the solo2 and duo using vix or bh as I have seen it working on both , should be the same on the solo and duo 2 and possibly the uno and ultimo

I cannot remember the names of any other plugins for epg downloading but I know several have been developed for various enigma images and versions

if you buy an original vu , I expect that the support will continue in the future same as it has up to now , especially popular plugins like crossepg

Just got hold of a vu duo. No idea what image is installed currently. Will plug it in now and check.

What is e1 or en?

all HD boxes are E2 , SD boxes are E1 , like the dm500

check the VU forums here, plenty of info on them (sub section of the satellite forum)

You might also want to make sure the vu box you have is not a clone. Some images will render some clones useless

Stuck on openvix boot screen at moment. Couple minutes now. "Loading"
