What is this big LNB for? (Small Pictures Inside)

    Hi guys.

I have just been given this old LNB and I was wondering if it is ok for my 1.6m prime focus Dish for Astra 2C and other Astra Satellites from Central Europe.

    Thanks
    Michael

Its a Ku Band Lnb not much use to be quite honest, yes it can be used on a prime focus Dish you can find all the details here Ku band - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

      Hi alunfennell,

Thanks. Can this LNB be used to receive signal from ASTRA 2C and the other ASTRA satellites? Because I don't live in the UK, and the signal from these satellites is weak at my place.

      Thanks
      Michael.

As far as I know Astra especially 2C have no transmittion in Ku Band, some of the satellites over the Middle East still use the Ku Band on some services, today Banks and large private companys use these LNBs for satellite linkups to conduct video and data feeds between two or more locations.

To be honest its a bit usless but if your somewhat interested in feed hunting you might have some fun with it but then again the size of the dish might give you limited results.........

Still if I had it I would be interested in seeing what if anything it could pick up ...Please if you do so post some results for us to read ....remember if you get it mounted you will have to change the settings on the receiver to receive Ku Band ....

King of Sat will give you a good idea of whats broadcasting using this system ...

Sorry to butt in. Im sure this is a cband lnb. The lnbs we use on our everyday dishes are ku band. Correct?

this could be a 'saver'.. i dont think i've ever seen Alun make a mistake.. perhaps he is human after all and not a massive satellite autobot.. but then again it was 03:51 BST so he may have just been on low battery

NewBirth2010.. some people on the continent use a joint C/Ku LNB & Dish..

It very unlikly to be a C-band lnb especially in the UK its more likly to be Ku-band C-band was phased out back in the 80s but is till been used in some parts of the world mainly northern Russian for a european example.

C band is restricted to less populated regions of the world. There is a move which started in 2005 towards new Ku band satellites operating at higher frequencies, offering greater performance at lower cost. These antennas vary from 74cm to 120cm in most applications though C-band may be as large as 4.0m

In Europe Ku band is used from 10.7 to 12.75 GHz (LOF Low 9.750 GHz, LOF High 10.600 GHz) for direct broadcast satellite services such as those carried by the Astra satellites but not so much any more

The 11.7 to 12.5 GHz segment is allocated to the BSS (broadcasting satellite service).

I think I will throw this LNB out. Alun may have a point here, but I can not be sure.

I tested that LNB but I did'nt get any signal. If it is only for C-Band then it is useless as most of the satellites are Ku-Band.

But I am wondering, what is the best LNB option to use on a prime focus Dish, 1.6m?

                    Thanks.

Also, Please note the 2nd image.

                      The label writes:

                      "Model: PM-9/C-V/H GOLD"

It doesn't say anything about "Ku".

Anyway I will throw it out. I fed up with it.

                      Thanks
                      Michael.

This is a rare model. Even using google is difficult to spot a site that gives a description for that LNB.

But I assume it is a C-Band (Useless) LNB.

Link for a web page probably related with the above model - here.

any prime focus LNB should be fine.. they are around the ?70-90 mark though

Ku band feedhorns from the Satellite Superstore UK. Prime and offset feedhorns. Low prices. Big discounts
