    Overview of my options

    Hi,
Ok I'm on a difficult learning curve due to my circumstances but would apperciate if somebody could give some clarity to a great deal ambiguity regarding my options.

I have SKY HD with a box that is going in the bin as its playing up. I subscribe to everything pretty much but only really watch SkySports and horse racing channels. Im looking to get a replacement for this skyhd box with a view to initially use my sky card with new box. It has to have HD and be able to record 2 channels (PVR etc).
I have been reading about dreamboxes but get conflicting info as to what I will and wont be able to do. I can only use the sky dish thats up (a motorised setup with incline was dennied where I live) but Im looking to try and keep all the sport coverage etc after cancelling the sky.
I think Ill get a 500s just to learn stuff on but would like info on whther I could get all the sport I get now, in HD and what Ill need to get it?

    Much appreciated

right now you wont get anything apart from Sky HD on your Sky HD Box..

If you cant have a motor and you cant have a bigger dish then getting anyother box than a Sky box is a waste of money..

The dreambox 500s is not HD, a 500HD box is due out soon..
However there are problems running the new white Sky Card's..

A dreambox is best used for opening up european channels with something called cardsharing.. with a full Sky HD package you are in a strong position, but with a fixed dish aimed only at the Sky satellite a dreambox is a waste for you mate..

If your cancelling Sky then a dreambox will not open Sky Sports, Sky One etc only the free channles..

Basically if you still want to watch BBC, ITV, C4 etc and you dont have a motor on your dish you wont get any sport

You would be better off getting 'Freeview' for your UK TV and moving your sky dish to either 13E or 19E to receiver sport.. as you are using a 'Sky Dish' your options are severly limited due to Sky Dishes not having universal LNB brackets

        Opsmonkey,
What do you mean that 'with full sky HD subs Im in a strong position' regarding card sharing?
My mate goes on about Ip being better than the card sharing, is that not the case for the dreambox?

        Thanks for the response btw

sorry mate rules of the forum prevent me from going indepth about this..

if you have a good card to share then you will be in a strong position.. IP boxes are ok if you have no package to share and your IT skills are basic

AND you do not want to view any NDS package as the receivers used are mostly incapable of handling this Encryption.
