it is, but bear in mind the linux boxes take more setting up than a standard type of box that uses patched firmware

without knowing your expertise and budget its almost impossible to tell you what to buy as there are so many options , plus there is the question of your budget too
if you had asked about a car its the same answer , so many questions that need answering before anyone can tell you what to buy

I wrote a guide some time ago that gives various options but many, many more exist

but many more options exist, for those wanting simple and those wanting better but more complicated

so if we assume you have good pc skills then a linux box using plugins and emus is a good choice , so a vu solo 2, vu duo 2 , gigablue quad or similar linux based box

for bespoke boxes you have spiderbox 6000 HD, technomate tm5402 or similar (like blade 7000s or 5000s) or some other similar boxes you can patch easily

Thanx so much,,my pc skills are good i think,,i used to patch my 5400 and so on but with guidance i can manage most things, also my budget is whatever the item costs so no problem there,,but i do have a big motorised dish and was just wondering what i could use with as little fuss as possible, thanx again.

As with everything buy the best you can afford. But also same as everything the most expensive is not always necessary by the that I mean the top of the range dreamboxes and the vu+ duo2 are overpriced (in my opinion). They are built with quality components but for a good setup the solo 2, quad plus and a few others around the same price with similar specs are more than good enough for the job with dual core processors and a gig of ram you get nice smooth streaming from good iptv streams as well nice responsive box controls. With the Linux boxes the more you put in the more you get out and the results far out way the effort required to achieve them. It's not rocket science and even someone with the most basic of pc skills will be able to follow the very good tutorials that have been written for almost every function you will need but the more pc savvy you are the easier it is to get to grips with. Best advice I can give is to get stuck in and practice googling telnet commands for Linux, these will bail you out of all sorts awkward moments
