ROOM TO ROOM SAT AND CABLE SOO MUCH ON THE MARKET NOW

I have noticed so many threads asking for RF out puts HDMI outputs e.c.t. e.c.t. for satellite and cable boxes.
I have been into this and investigated this for over four years now. My set up consists of a wireless transmitter that sends my signal to my TV from my sat and cable box under my stairs in the hall approx. 3mtrs away it can also transmit upstairs if needed in 1080p or 3d tv. this set up is expensive and cost me approx. ?260 it can cost even more dependant on how many receivers you have as you need one for each TV. this works for my DVD as well as this goes to my tv in the same way as there are three HDMI inputs into the transmitter. each receiver can cost ?100+ .

This setup can be expensive for a lot.

the other method is running a cable around the house to each tv, a majority of boxes do not have a RF output I have done this on previous occasions using a RF modulator price approx. ?25 to ?30 for a decent one which will change a scart cable or phono cable signal to RF this can also be done now I believe with HDMI output but the cost spirals and you might as well do it wirelessly from the ones I have seen recently on the market.

It would be interesting to know how other people run their set ups and get their signals to their tvs.

i like tv independent of each other so box for each and most are e2 so can play recordings from on any box to tv,not ventured too much yet with the saorview boxes and hdd .old vcrs were cheap for running rf signal around house but are inferior to hdmi if you like the best.

As cactikid says, inddependant boxes are far better. I have a box in 3 rooms. They can watch what they want without interfering with another room, but also with e2 boxes they can be streamed to phones or tablets, laptops and computers really easily

I'm another for independent boxes. As well being able to watch recordings on all boxes from anywhere on the network as mentioned above they turn each tv into a smart tv and if you don't mind the odd clone you can pick up a solo clone for about ?90 delivered, perfect for bedroom or like most of us when a new main box is bought the old main box gets moved to bedroom. Even buying a couple of brand new clones instead of recycling old boxes this method works out cheaper than a decent wireless sender but part of the lure of this hobby is multitude of different setups available to suit any need and budget

Totally agree independent boxes are the best the other members of the family have their own boxes set up cant call them kids anymore.

The only reason I set up the wireless set up was for the wife she goes to bed and watches what she has recorded on the box downstairs and I can carry on and watch normal TV this way I found you get a better picture with my setup the Mrs is not into streaming the min she gets a glitch she's calling me and you miss many a goal LOL.
The many times I have streamed I have found the picture freezing and glitching on many occasions, then another day its fine the only way to get it seamless is wired connection I have found it is dependent on the make up of the house and you have the environmental factors interfering with the wireless signal
I have paid out for many av sender units etc. only to find them to be useless with the signal breaking up every few mins.

I bought the belkin system although expensive it has worked seamlessly and is great for me great for me not having to wire the whole house.

That's ok but doesn't help if you try to stream a film if someone in the house is raping your wifi bandwidth with an xbox or playstation. Neither the e2 boxes or xbox's can currently use 5ghz frequency so you will be stuck on the same frequency. Speed and stability will win everytime for me and you can pick up a pair of zyxel 500mb homeplugs for around ?20. Almost twice the price I know but still cheap enough to warrant the stability over cost. If you have multiple devices in the same room just add a 4 port switch to homeplug for about another fiver and let the xbox's have the 2.4ghz to themselves. What I have is router with a simultaneous 2.4 & 5ghz wifi with laptop's and smart phones on 5ghz and a couple of xbox's and an old lappy on 2.4ghz. Nas, Quad plus and smart tv in living room hard wired to gigabit ports on router and home plug upstairs with a 4 port switch attached and 2 sat/cable receivers and a couple of smart tv's plugged into that. Everything can stream from everything and no buffering

That's great but I am a bit of a gadget freak don't like cables everywhere so anything that avoids cables I am all for.

the best thing I used my setup for was to bring my large TV to the garden for the world cup just ran the power cable from the garage at the bottom of the garden no need for any other cables just plug the HDMI cable into the receiver and TV and hey presto instant football. I could not do that with Wi-Fi as the distance was too great.

Its personal preference at the end of the day but there's good and bad points in all.

But certainly going to give the homeplug a try around the house. happy_highlander

The difference between wifi and homeplugs is huge. I have wifi dongles that came with smart tv's upstairs (probably not the best quality) connection speed test on tv with these ranges from 800 to 2000 k/bits but with home plugs is between 8000 and 8250. They are quadruple the speed and there is very little variation making them very stable. Granted my house had full rewire about 7 years ago so the fairly new electrics to carry the signal will be helping.

Hdmi matrix (4x4)for flexibility in terms of where you want to view and two receivers (one dual tuner solo and one skybox). Tv also has sat tuner capable of softcam through wireless diablo card.

Ive always used Homeplugs and find them flawless with my Dreambox.

Ive also recently set my mate up with a Dreambox 800c with a Mifi on the 3 Network with a wifi usb lan card and it works perfect.
You would think he had broadband its that good you never see a glitch even on the $ channels.

I've ran Cat 6e cable throough my house, with gigabit switches. All my streaming etc is spot on, Just food for thought

Cat5e cabling is also good for longer runs for direct hdmi links (or any other type of extension required for that matter.

If doing a new setup in a house always a good idea to setup a 3-4 ethernet (cat5e) cables throughout if possible. A good quality 30m run costs a couple of quid. Add baluns of your choice and you have potential for good quality signal like hdmi with no interferance or lag.

Cat5 is slower than Cat6. So run Cat6
