    Setting up dish and motor

I am just about to start fixing my t and k to the wall this morning.

I'm a wee bit confused with what angles to set the dish and motor too, using dishpointer for my location and 0.8w I see that my elevation is 26.5 degrees, do I set this on the dish or on the motor?

the dish is triax td110 and alsat dark motor,

    thanks

make sure the pole is plumb in all directions

set the triax dish to that figure

set the motor to your latitude and lock it there

then set the box to usals and select 0.8w so the motor moves to where it thinks bbc world news (thor) is

now move the motor left or right on the pole until you get bbc world news

fine tune it left or right, with slight up or down on the dish elevation itself (not the motor latitude) to peak the signal

lock it and test other sats

      thanks,

I am having an issue though, the dish only seems to be moving a few degrees in either direction, anyone have any ideas? thanks

      approx from 1.9 e to 12.5 west.

I have tuner config set to simple
      mode - positioner
      longitude 004.516 west
      latitude 055.614 north

on dishpointer my lat and long is:

      Latitude: 55.6147?
      Longitude: -4.5161?

      thanks

Can you move the dish further with the manual buttons on the motor and have you entered you longitude and latitude for a USALS setup(the easiest,I think)? Also check the limits on the motor.
        Cheers.

thanks for the reply, but it was down to a schoolboy error, one of the bolts was fouling the motor bracket, silly me!

frustrating as hell, cant get any signals!

in my motor manual it says to set the motor elevation angle according to the latitude of your position, in the back of the manual there is a table with all the latitudes, next to mine of 56, the elevation angle is 34, declination angle is 7.8, and i have set the dish angle to 27.

I also tried it the way ramjet said at first, but nothing at all.

thinking about going to screwfix for one of the cheap sat finder meters to see if it helps.

what you have said above is the same as I said

motor on say 55.5 to 56 (latitude) - on the actual motor itself
dish about 26 to 27 degrees

receiver on thor , bbc world news with usals position set in the receiver settings

motor moves to the correct position for thor (for your location)

then find south (ish) and move the motor round the pole to try to find thor and bbc world news , but you may need to adjust the dish elevation slightly
(but not the motor elevation which stays on 55.5)

by having the box using usals and sat on an fta thor channel it will pop up if monitoring a flat panel tv at the same time

a cheap satfinder will beep when on a satellite, but it wont tell you which satellite you are on, hence using a tv connected to your box and using bbc world news

bear in mind that if there are any obstructions like brick walls or trees etc you wont get a signal

For latitude 56 I have a dish bracket angle of 22.2?( 30 minus declination angle for lat 56 which is 7.2) ?

here is a picture of mine taken a couple of years ago, same motor and dish but at 53.5n not 55.6n

dish angle is on 27.5 degrees as can be seen in the picture

also bear in mind I had it on thor so the dish is almost vertical when viewed from the side

got it now, bloody pole had shifted and wasnt sitting 100% plumb, all my buggering about must have moved it slightly, all tightened up now, signal strenghts could be a wee bit better but it all appears to be working thankfully
