Strange signal problem..

Hi,

I went on holiday and unplugged my dm800 in the lounge. I got back plugged it in and no signal. Tried my f5s in the bedroom and that was fine.

I have tried swapping the inputs where they come into the flat to each box and it doesnt work. Also tried another dm800 to make sure wasn't the box.. I have noticed the coax cable from dm800 seems to have a little voltage where as the f5s cable doesn't.

I did at one point get a signal in the lounge on one or 2 channels but when i switched off the f5s in the bedroom the dm800 lost all channels again.

Beginning to think voltsge or lmb but I am well and truly stuck now.

Please help.

Also the f5s works on both inputs

I've just tried the f5s in the lounge with another wire going directly to where they come in the house and no signal.it briefly got a signal but as soon as I turned off the box In the bedroom it went off.seriously confused now

Hi . If you are using a loop through cable to connect to a second box and you turn off the first box then the second box will also go off ie no signal. What is your setup ie do you have one dish/lnb with two cables coming into your house/flat.?? You said that the F5 worked fine on both inputs which indicates there is nothing wrong with lnb or cables. Also you said you tried a different DM800 box and did this work ok or not. What is the state of play at this moment in time??

Hi sorry for my late reply...

This really is the strangest problem ever.
. I have 2 feeds coming from the dish with a quad lab. They both come into the flat into a hatch where one goes to lounge and other goes to the bedroom. I have plugged my f5s into both feeds directly where the hatch is and no signal on either feed.

You would presume at this point that the dish just wasn't working, but if I go into my bedroom and plug the f5s in it works flawlessly. Even if I go back to the hatch and swap which cable the box has... How is this possible?

These are the 2 feeds coming directly from the dish. If I use a joiner and plug in next to hatch I get this.





If I plug the bedroom wire into joiner it works In the bedroom fine on both feeds.

But neither feed works if I use a short length of cable and plug into the hatch.

Please note the big splitter fixed to the wall isn't used for anything

Yes,very strange.If you get a very strong signal in the bedroom,the reason you might not get anything at the hatch is that the receiver could be swamped by an even larger,excessive signal,because of a reduced cable length.So this would leave you with a faulty cable from hatch to lounge.Can't see how an lnb would cause a problem like this because,as far as I know,the ports are independent of each other.But,perhaps there's some sort of cross interference due to water ingression.I say this because at one point you had a couple of channels in the lounge that were lost when you switched off the F5S in the bedroom.If possible try the other 2 ports or change the lnb(best bet,I reckon).
You could double check the F-connectors.Also maybe try another cable from lounge to hatch.How does the DM 800 perform in the bedroom and at the hatch.Good luck!Cheers

Have you tried using a different cable to connect the box to the LNB feed in the hatch, to eliminate a faulty cable?

Are the cables from the LNB the black cables in your photos?

Thanks for your reply... I will try and get access to the roof and have a look,sure must be the LNB..Ive tried a few cables from the hatch to the boxes, even different lengths..but nothing. still works in the bedroom tho

I Have tried a few cables, all different lengths and nothing.I even tried hooking up a extension on the bedroom cable and that didnt work!!

The lnb cables are the ones in my hand in one of the pics. (one black and one white)

Have you tried using a different cable to connect the box to the LNB feed in the hatch, to eliminate a faulty cable?

Are the cables from the LNB the black cables in your photos?

No will try that, I will hold the skybox upto the hatch and see.

I've just tried it,

One input didn't do anything.
The other input the odd channel worked but bad signal quality and a lot of channels didn't work

Different results from different receivers on both inputs,points again ,to the lnb.You could try the other two ports of the lnb but for the cost I'd change the lnb.
