I would like a new sat receiver box with RF

I want to replace an old SKY HD toshiba box which I had just for the free view channel. I kept this box simply because it was easier to understand for others than my dreambox 800se I have setup. But know what has happen as the software on the old Toshiba HD cannot be upgraded a few of the free view channels aren't working that well so a new sky box would be required..Err well that ain't going to happen.

Also I understand anyhow that sky have removed the RF from the new boxes so people are unable to connect it to other TV's in the house so they will consider multi room.

So basically I want a separate box but one with more or less the same output as the current Sky box but will also allow me to treat it as I would treat my dreambox 800se if you get my meaning.

?25 - ?200 would be my budget. Also a machine that has software support would be advantageous .

Dilemma: Most Enigma2 receivers or at least the Decent ones dont have an RF Modulator the likes of the Technomate Range do but sadly support is lacking to say the least.

Other option is to get a half decent Linux Enigma2 receiver within your budget and then purchase either a cheap external RF Modulator or something like the Triax Tri-Link that adds Magic Eye capability.

Your last option is to purchase a secondhand DRX895 early model with the RF Mod still in and use that or get a DRX595 non hard drive model and then purchase an I/O link which will give you the RF2 Magic eye capability back

You know what Digicon, I had already purchased a Triax Tri-LINK and it's still in the box, got it about 3-4 months ago it was meant to be for my dreambox but never got round to setting it up, totally forgot I had that so thanks for that first of all.

Ok so now the box any recommendations you can think of at the top of your head which is a popular choice for those in the know? I may as well get a better receiver than what I'm using I guess, if there is one I guess.

Whats the best price I'd be able to pick up a VU DUO2 and are they worth the money ?

I have never owned a VuDuo2 i have had the other models the last being a Solo2 which i found Great and Support is fantastic, I suppose it depends what you want to do with the receiver. Say if your just using this on a fixed 28.2? east setup then i would say its overkill, If you ave other satellites at your disposal then its probably worth it.

I was very tempted myself as its easily upgradeable to 4 tuners but i opted for a Gigableu Quad Plus in the end as its Cheaper and is more flexible Tuner wise as my requirements where 3 X Satellite tuners and 1 x DVBT-T2/C tuner something which the Duo cannot do.

Also have a look at the reviews of the Golden Interstar LX3 which is of similar spec to the Duo2 but has the flexibility of the Quad+

If a VU+ is overkill for just 28.2e viewing only, What other receivers would you recommend for 28.2e only with -
              RF
              Twin Tuner
              Decent EPG with Series Link
              Channel List Auto Update

              Thanks

@Digicon what sort of price should I be looking at if I pick up a Gigableu Qaud Plus? Are the black and white boxes the same specs just a different colour ? Can you run XMBC on your box & if so is it seamless. Is setting it up straight forward enough ?

I Sourced my Gigablue Quad Plus from a German E-tailor as the price was around ?40 cheaper at the time and includes a 2 year warranty, Although i see that a lot of the UK suppliers are now offering a 2 year warranty and prices do seem to be falling in line with our european cousins. The Black and White Models are Identical.

As for the XBMC question i cant answer that as i primarily use it as a satellite receiver first and foremost, I have tried XBMC on other models and found it Clunky to say the least, I use an Intel NUC for XBMC as i need the extra processing power for complete full Blu ray Playback and not the 720/1080 rips that are avaialble and of course a lot of the cheaper android models wont do full BR playback and are lacking in power. I use OpenElec version as it includes the latest release for Dolby Atmos surround playback.

                  Regards
