    Viasat Extra PL Channels

I have for years been able to scan in the Viasat Extra PL channels on 11747 v 27500 3/4. I am now getting tune failed on all these channels so I checked with Lyngsat and it seems they have moved to 11345 v 30000 3/4. When I try to scan this transponder I am getting 0 channels found, my dish is a Fracarro 85cm with Black ultra LNB.

Is this transponder too weak to receive a service in the North West England (Merseyside) ?

    Thanks

That would be the SES-5 Nordic beam similar to the Nordic Beam on Astra4a so for reliable reception you would be looking at something like a Triax TD110 1.1m dish or similar 1m dish, But still expect some problems in a heavy downpour

Just been trying to find out what is going on here.
I have a 1.2m Gregorian dish, The PL channels used to fly in but now they don't.
It looks like they have moved to SES-5 which is in same position but spot beamed to Scandanavia.
Here on merseyside I don't get a sniff of them anymore.
      New fequency is 11.345v 30,000 3/4 S2 8PSK.
I think it is something to do with EPL restrictions.

hI. Youre right about the EPL clamping down on broadcasts and from what i heard its going to get worse in the New Year. The reason you dont get the Viasat EPL channels is because the signal strength has been reduced over the UK as in London with a 1m dish i dont get the channels anymore or you may get a very weak signal at times which does not allow channels to open.

        regards

Hi Nutsandbolts, looking at the footprint for SES-5, it doesn't seem to touch UK at all.

Hi jules to be honest i dont bother much with footprints as they can be misleading at times. I just stick a 1.2m dish on a motor and look for a satellite and when i find it i spend a lot of time on tweaking and tuning the dish until i know that the channels cannot be received in the UK. The same situation occurs with the Turksat satellite at 42 east. You can get the west beam in the UK no problem but you wont get the east beam where the free live EPL matches are shown. As you rightly said its to do with EPL clamping down on free football to the UK.

For reliable reception of the Nordic beam on 4.8? east is to live on the east coast of england as the beam hits nearer to that coastline than anywhere else

Is there anyone receiving these channels in the West or Northwest of England? Please let us know dish size etc.
                  Regards,
                  Jules.

Hi Guys, just had a thought, I am running my cable looped through another box and a diseqc switch.
I wonder if it would make a difference if I went direct, or is it not worth trying?

                    Regards,
                    Jules.
