    Satelite V's Cable

    Hello all,

I live in Dublin and was using a starview 4 to receive cable tv, as you all know supplier has moved to nagra3. I am toying with idea of going to satelite but I don't know anything about it.
What can I expect to get in terms of programming, My interests are premiership football, newly released movies etc.

    Thanks in advance,

for me cable was a stepping stone to satellite and since i moved from the cable side to satellite side i've never looked back.

however you need to be aware that you can NOT get sky free on satellite like you could on cable, to view it on satellite you will either need a valid subscritpion or join a cardshare, however the hardest part is finding a good solid share to join as 95% of them are over subscribed and freeze more times than a eskimo taing a pi$$ in the arctic

we dont allow in depth talk of cardshare on here as its highly illegal, for more info google is your friend mate.

Well there is no real comparison between the two ! Satellite providers normaly supply channels for cable companys for a fee, As is the case with Sky the british satellite provider supplying channels for the different British and Irish cable companys.

The bandwith of conventional Cable was around 50-60 channels upgraded to fiber-optics brought this up including internet & telephone services to just over 200 channels (depending on the provider) ...

Satellite is only limited by transponders and with multiple satellites at the same location a provider can easly host over a thousand channels as is the case with Sky 28 Degrees East, the further you move across Europe the more satellites are located for different providers for example Sky Germany broadcast along with Canal+ France, Spain, UPC Czech Link and the Dutch provider anlong with many more at the 19 Degre east Location and so on across Europe.

With a Motorised system you can pick up a range of satellites and many providers tuning in around 5-6 thousand channels from different parts of Europe of which all carry the normal mix of Movies, Sports, Cartoons, Discovery History etc the same as Sky !

Or what Sky like to make Pay Per View like Boxing etc can normaly be picked up freely with the right equipment and some know how ! Same goes for movies in some cases other providers will have certain movies before Sky even show them !

With Satellite you can view live football on Saturday afternoon on Sky Germany or other (you can't on Sky UK ) only Sport Center same on a Sunday and other major and less well followed Sports can be found.

I could go on & on but there is no comparison between Cable and Satellite if you want more than your cable provider gives you and you want to watch suff you dont get then a satellite system is the way to go......

Bin Cable go Satellite (you will wonder why you waisted your time with Cable )

Some good info there alun and krazylegz, was thinking of getting some sort of motorized set up myself but am a bit lost on what I need to get it up and running properly..

Is there any chance of these channells going any time soon to nagra 3 or would satelite be a safe bet for the future?

What would be the ideal set up and best place to buy (dish size, hd box ect ect) for dublin Ireland

Most satellite packages are already nag3 and NDS a encryption which has never been hacked in over 10 years. You can still view these channels with the know how and correct equipment as Alun mentioned. However you will need a decent internet connection and the ability to google cardsharing and read as much as possible!

it all depens on how mutch you would like to spend and if you want HD but a dreambox 500s(?85) a 1meter dish (?60)a technomate 2600 motor(?50) 4 f plugs(?4) 1 mounting bracket(?15) coax an ethernet cable from your rooter to your 500s and that would be the basick sd set up needed and a good view of south
