First timer questions.

Hello there, noob alert.

I'm interested in getting the football, EPL mainly but the more the merrier. And just wondered what i'd need to get etc. I know there's lots of information on this stuff already, but it's all a lot to take in for a novice like myself.

I guess the biggest question for me, is what channels i should be looking to for football, would i be right in thinking 'ART', which requires a subscription? But i'm wondering if i use something like a Eurovox or Dreambox, will i be able to pick up the channels without needing to pay the sub.?

ART do not hold EPL rights. Only one of their sub channels owned by Showtime arabia show one match at anyone time with out 3pm!

I feel stupid asking these questions as i'm sure it's all been covered many times already and you're all probably fed up answering the same questions all the time.

So if you could maybe point me towards something i could read for myself(that's noob freindly, ), that explains how this thing works. What i need, what channels offer what, can i get HD feeds etc.? That sort of thing.

A lot depends on what box you have (if any), what size dish you have, if it is motorised and where you live. I think I am right in saying you need a monster dish for ART if you live in the UK.

You can only guarantee watching EPL if you pay a sub to one of the various providers and these can be very expensive, though DigitalAlb may be an option - however they can apparently be a littlle unreliable by advertising one game and then showing a different one instead - don't know myself as I haven't bothered.

DigiTV can be viewed at the moment but may be "lost" in the very near future

your best option is to buy a 1m dish, motor and a dreambox / blackbox 500s and google Cardsharing (as its a topic that can not be talked about on this forum).. however it requires savvy IT skills, including being able to..:

*set up a LAN (Local Area Network)
*be comfortable with sending files from your PC to a satellite box via FTP / Null Modem Cable
*be able to make your ISP IP address static
*be able to write and input small linux coded commands

have a look around the dreambox sections, both cable and satellite, read the red (sticky) posts.. This will give you an idea of the depth of knowledge required for basic setup..

Also look at the slightly easier option of a protek or maxx box that is plug and play, but has limited oportunities for choice of channels..

both require broadband internet though..

Just for clarification, ART can be picked up in the UK with a sky minidish if its aimed at 13E.. However Showtime Arabia's premier league sport channels require a minimum of 2.4m dish and even that will not guarantee reception.. ART no longer show any EPL or UEFA Champions League games

Please note. Having good IT, FTP skills, and the rest stated by opsmonkey will not get you any channels. You will need to spend alot of time behind a pc to find peers to build a server which in turn will open channels. Your best bet is to buy a small cheap subscription card and using that to attain peers to your server.

i disagree.. i dont have a card and open most packages.. i found my main peers within 3 days, not a long time

also small cheap cards are everywhere, your better saving your money for a premium card if this is the route you wish to go down..

Thanks guys. Seems like a bit more effort than i was expecting really.

I was under the impression i could just get the equipment set-up, and then just point the dish whereever and 'voila', i'd be watching free football. LOL!!

Is it still worth doing, i mean is there still a good amount of football, ~~~~ or whatever that i can pick up without so much effort but just a bit of know-how??

Ops you make it sound really easy some times . I couldnt even flash a image after day 3 ..
Of course its still worth doing. You will get over 300 live epl games from just one package and the other 60can be found through various other packages. You get movies Well before sky even have them on their epg!

which provider ? which bird ? dish size ? (ie Al Jazeera Sports 26 east) the more he knows the better his chances of getting a card cheaper than what some shops are selling them (ie cards on flea bay)

canal + nordic will broadcast over 300 live epl games this year on 1west with english audio for every 2/3 games they broadcast!
