Im in N.Ireland, what size dish would i need to access 1w Thor channels from my location?

dish size 1 west

not to far from dublin.using 80cm but has to be set up carefully.use bbc news to find sat(it has a strong signal)to fine tune use nova sport or tv1000.if you can get bigger all the better.basic hint a small difference in dish size(say 80 to 90cm)will make a huge difference in what you can pick up.happy hunting.

You can go up to 1m without planning permision (though best to check local authority).

My advise to anyone is to get the best you can with your money.

I'm in North West uk, not much use to you I know, but get perfect picture for 1w, 13e, 16e, 19.2e.

just 1 more point.when i was first setting up for 1 west i was told by 3 different shops that here in ireland i would need at lleast a 1.1m dish cheapest quote over 120euros without lnb.ask mates for 80cm as when sky digital came in alot of people have them in back of shed.thats what i did and with a cheap motor 80euros.can now get(unless heavy rain) 1 west. 5 west. 8 west. 12.5west(not great signal)15 west.30 west(not great)5 east.7 east.9 east.13 east.16 east.19 east.28east.39east.and42east.and this is with cable joined together and a cheap lnb.

setting up a motorised dish in ireland you would be best to use 5west as your due south satellite

Depending on your view of footprint I myself have an 80 cm motorised dish set up 10 yards from a two storey house to the west and can get 45 west to east as you can go with most good when weather is suitable,you will need a size 10 spanner (12/13 for the heavy stuff nuts securing motor and Dish ect) suiable amount of good quality co-axial cable plenty cable clips, R F connecters, six or eight feet T Bars and planks for scaffolding a compass and sat finder from Aldi or one of them stores for a fiver and away you go, taking particular note of the importance of getting true south.on with your Sat Finder then a little nudge east will get you Thor 1 provided you have the software loaded into your reciever you will need a Null Modem (R S 232)for this you will have some kind of signal, horozontal and vertical adjusting will get you a perfect piccy, all things being equal all other sats should you should be able to sort out from your reciever in the comfort of your chair,hope this helps enjoy.

1metre dish i would say go for if wanting 1west but don't guarantee on the digitv channels being around forever as they will go encrypted sometime.

if anyones interested i came across a site where you can search for the right size dish its really simple to use just go on sky cards and click on the what-size-dish logo on the homepage its great. Also if you already know what dish size you need you can register that onto it to help others out.
