    Water in Diseqc switch

    Hi guys

Does anyone know how durable diseqc switches are?

I bought one last week which had an outer protective box running two feeds from my two dishes.

I lost signal on my 19.2 dish

Ran out to the dish and switch and there was some water running out of the switch.

The 28.2 feed was still good.

I swapped the feeds over now both are dead.

I am guessing the water has ruined my switch or could it be something else?

Hi Have you check the settings in your receiver for Disecq settings??? very unlikely that a bit of water is going to ruin a switch. Also have you checked if dish alingment is correct. You could also take the cables from the switch and see if they work individually. If both cables work ok then problem is the switch or settings.

    Regards.

Sounds like the Switch is goosed and yes a good amount of water can easily get inside the switch itself that is unless you used some form of amalgamating tape to seal the 'F' connectors before you replaced the external cover

Are you sure that the water was actually running out of the switch? If so, which part of the switch?

The cases of all the switches I have used have been totally sealed with solder. There's a chance that water/moisture could work it's way up the F socket over time if the plugs aren't wrapped in amalgamating tape & the unused ports aren't sealed off, but to be full of water after just one week, with a plastic protecting cover used as well, sounds pretty unlikely.

The diseqc switches I've used in the past (2 way, 4 way and 8 way) have all proved to be a bit flimsy in that because I used 4 dishes with 2 or 3 lnbs on each and I was constantly unscrewing cables on and off them I found that the solder used to crack that was carrying the signal from the cable connection to the board inside.
I solved the problem by cutting short lengths of cable for each connection and fitting them permanently to the switch and using an F barrel connection then to connect the satellite cable.
I would say that your diseqc switch is banjaxed and would recommend digicons suggestion above for the future.
