    Zgemma H, 2s problem

    Hello all

I have zgemma H 2s. Iv installed open ATV 5.1 SOFTWARE. the box loads up fine and you can watch all channels without any problems. The problem i am having is recording.

When i record somthing it shows on file list sometimes not all the time. When it does show and i press to view it, It crashes the box. I get blue screen then message saying problem with firmware. Has anyone have any similar problems and maybe help me out?

I am using sandisk 128 usb. Not a cheap one.

    Thanks for any help

Did you bother to set up a file swap. If not start there and disable permanent timeshift if you have that running the gemma cannot cope with anything else if that's running.

In Linux. File swap can be enabled to take a portion of your hdd (usb stick) upto 512mb on openatv which can be used by the operating system to swap system resources (files) into temporarily and stop it crashing. This is why Linux can still work very well with low spec systems i.e sat receivers or old laptops so when a system intensive task like recording or replaying media is taking place the box doesn't crash. I wouldn't recommend this on higher end boxes like the quad+, solo2 or duo2 as file swap can actually slow these boxes down as they have more than enough grunt to deal with whatever you throw at them.

It may also be advisable to setup CacheFlush as well this will also help the lower spec Zgemma's keep pace

I find the H.2S can record fine without cache flush or using a swap file. You just need a properly mounted and fast enough USB or SD formatted to EXT3 or EXT4 with the recording path set to the recording device. I use ViX and it works 100% for me.

I thought there was only fat32 and NTFS? Also where would i get the latest vix image for the H. 2s?

Found it but got error when trying to convert to EXT

                Thanks

Fat32 and NTFS are windows OS standards where as ext3 and ext4 are used on linux os's, and because the zgemma is enigma 2 (linux) recordings will work better with the ext3 and 4 filesystems but that dosent mean fat32 wont work, I have the same box as you and i had problems with recording, when i changed to the ViX image everything was perfect, maybe try that first, it could also be your usb stick compatibility as im using an external hardrive, have you got one to test?, here are the official images for the zgemma's http://www.zgemma.tv/ let me know how you get on

FAT32 has a 4GB file size limit, so recording a Movie or Soccer Match, F1 race etc in HD may not work due to the file size. EXT4 is by far the best option.
