    zgemma 2s enquiry...

Hi all, ATM I have a Openbox v8s, had it nearly a year now with only one hiccup were it would lose all other channels except the section of channels you were on, I.e if you were watching kids channels you'd get all the kids and all others would completely disappear from the EPG. But after deleting and redoing the channel list, telecom and redoing the "gift" etc all was well.

That was a few months ago now and thinking of upgrading to a z gemma 2s so I can record one channel and watch another etc...

Are they any good or are there better boxes out there for same price (?60-70).

The Openbox will go upto our room as can run 2 boxes in same house.

    Thanks

Dont buy the 2S its a little long in the tooth now and very slow look at the newer models such as the H.2S or for a few quid more the Edision OS Mini and for around another ?30 you can get the TM-Nano-SE Plus which has a fixed tuner and a plug and play one but lets you install an internal 2.5" drive so no messy outside hard drives to deal with.

The star h2s and edision OS mini, look like the same box on the outside, so I'm guessing there's a difference inside between the 2?!

Same CPU and chipset but the edision mini has built in WiFi and official Openvix support.

I went from a 2s to a H.2s and the H.2s is much faster and more responsive.

I'll be running box on Ethernet cable as router is right by it, so not worried about WiFi.

Can you explain Openbox support. Thanks

It boils down to this really:

Zgemma - Chinese made machine and assembled in china to me personally do not feel well built a little flimsy but very good value for money no argument there, But probably the most popular image for beginners OpenVix is not officially supported so you have to use Patched images which you cannot software update if you do you could brick the box.

Edision - Assembled in Korea so feels a lot more solidly well built no cheap pats used but predominantly the main motherbord etc will have been produced in china which most things are, OpenVix is officially supported on this box so you can safely do online updates if you so wish without fear of bricking the box.

Zgemma - uses a Branded Samsung 109a DVB-C/T/T2 tuner which some say has problems on some cable frequency's this would obviously depend on a home by home setup as not everyone has the same issue and some do not have issues at all but from reading around i see more problems with this tuner than the previous H1 model which used a Samsung 101a tuner.

Edision - Uses a Branded Panasonic DVB-C/T/T2 tuner which is also used in the TM-Combo receivers this is a very sensitive tuner and so far have not seen any reports on people having any issues with frequency problems with this model, that could also be because its quite a new model and not as popular yet.

                Zgemma - around ?89

                Edision - ?99

Is ?10 worth it thats what you have to ask yourself
