zgemma sd channels poor quality

good morning all just set a zgemma h.s for a mate hd channels look ok but the quality of the sd channels look poor quality tried most
settings in the auto resolution but still not look great, are the zegemma stb all like this or is there a correct setting to make it more crisp cheers shaun

I always found the zgemma pic really good on my Sony 720p TV. Set the box to 1080i and just scales and see what think? I also set it to 50hz as know max I can handle.

have you two not realized sly like to bring down the quality of sd picture to make you move up to hd box

thanks cactikid aware of that reason i ask is is the zegemma gives a poor pic compared to my vu sd channels and prob looked better on a openbox aswell thats why i thought setting might improve pic quality but settings i tried dont make it much better cheers shaun

Which VU model are you referring too as not all Broadcom based receivers react the same probably due to some driver tweaking by the said manufacturers on most models, you will never ever get the same quality from a Mips based receiver to match that of an ALI or STI chipset on a closed source receiver dont ask me why but they have always given far better SD and HD picture quality.

I have a Solo4K here and compared to 2 other Mips/broadcom based receivers the picture quality is again slightly better probaby due to the fact that it rins an ARM based CPU compared to a Mips one.

Also factor in that resolution on the $ly premium based channels apart form the odd sport and entertainment channel is dropped form the usual 704x576i to around 504x576i even this slight drop makes a massive difference

thanks again digicon for your detailed reply just have a early vu solo, cant compare side by side at mo as the zegemma at mates house where i set it up for him its just he used a openbox before it broke and replaced with the zegemma and staight away said the quality sd channels were poorer than that of his openbox cheers shaun

i also find using a good quality hdmi cable gives a better picture and the annual clean screen on tv
