    New Receiver

    Hi,

I'm looking for a new Sat receiver that also has Cable functionality, with twin tuner functionality for both.

What are the best boxes I should be looking at?

I've been looking at the Gigablue HD Quad+ but it seems like it's an old box in tech terms and at roughly ?260 without a hard drive it still seems a bit steep. What are your thoughts on the Gigablue? / what other boxes should I consider?

    Cheers,

    L

Most of the regulars won't agree with me but I got a X Solo Mini 3 and it has twin tuners, both work flawlessly, and you can use genuine images from Open ATV with a couple of file name changes. You can also do online updates as the box identifies as a Miraclebox after applying that image. I really cannot fault it. You can add a cheap USB network adapter to give WiFi functionality. And all for fifty odd quid.

Quad + has been around a while yes but was introduced at a very high spec with still only a very few high end boxes with better spec being the vu+ duo2 and extrend et10000 and maybe one or two more but all command a much higher price tag. Any receiver running the dual core 1300mhz chipset will be more than man enough to do whatever you want but for twin sat and twin cable without using a usb tuner you are not going to find a better price box natively running 4 tuners with only the two boxes mentioned above and the much older vu+ ultimo sub ?400 mainstream makes used in the uk. You might get a dreambox that's capable but bang for buck the quad+ is still way up there.
The boxes mentioned are not the only ones capable but I've only stated the most popular atm.

Yep at 30 quid more than the quad+ it's certainly a good buy. I like my et8000 that runs the same chipset as my quad+ and if i was to be perfectly honest the extrend is a tad more stable on the same image but my quad is nearly 2 years older and much prettier to look at.
