    Newbie - Help please

    I recently got chatting to a satalitte installer and he said he could 'hook me up' with a system that pointed to the thor satalitte and I could get free football and various other chanels. He'd provide me with codes each time they were updated. How much football am I likely to get and is there anything else worth watching? I do love the game but I'm hoping there is more that's on.....

    I've no idea of technical specifications beyond he is offering the install for ?250. I will read and learn more but shortcuts and advice always welcome

    Thanks in advance for any help

    The channels are on digi tv 1 west. Shortly they will be cut off as they are changing encryption and will no longer be hacked. Unless you subscribe ie buy a card it is not worth bothering with. The days of hacked channels are nearly over and the linux receiver route is the only way forward.

      you will get quite a lot from Thor at the moment films,sport etc.,you can update the keys yourself from this site.
      BUT free encrypted channels from Thor are on borrowed time and they may close for good anytime now,did he warn you of that?
      Is the system he is offering motorised? it should be at the price.
      have a good look at the red "stickies" in the technomate section.

          ?250 far too cheap for motorised install but too expensive for stationery dish :S

            ?250 for an install is a lot of money.. i hope he will be providing the equipment too..

            Basically you can get a 1m dish for ?44, a motor for ?45, the LNB for ?10 and the cables, connectors and clips for ?10..

            The average price to install the above is ?100 - ?120 so ?250 is a bit steep.. Unless he's providing you with a linux satellite box..

            Dish 1m = ?44
            Motor = ?45
            Cable, Clips, Connectors = ?10
            LNB = ?10
            Linuxbox = ?50
            Install = ?110

            Total = ?269..

            If he's providing you with another type of box then ask him to provide you with a linux box otherwise once the keys go down you will have no channels..

            Be warned though the linux route is complex and requires a decent level of networking and computer knowledge

            Good luck

              motorised installs are a fair bit more mate. I know two installers, one from south the other from north. they charge quite a bit more for a motorised install with the equipment included.
