Thinking of splashing out on VU+ Duo2 - thoughts?

Currently have a Zgemma H2h but have a burning desire to buy a Duo2 to run cable and sat.

Am I crazy to consider spending so much? I'd just like a better machine with better connectivity (specifically want component for my slingbox connection).

An alternative might be a GiGaBlue HD QUAD+ PLUS, but by the time I've added the cable tuner it's only coming in at ?60 cheaper.

I'm trying to buy the best, once. Is the Duo2 the way to go?

    Any opinions?

My concern would be spending a lot of money, for the system these boxes use to end a couple of days later, but as you use the cable side it should continue for a while longer if satellite goes dark.

As to which box, I'd personal wait until tomorrow just in case the likes of WOS have a Black Friday sale and don't forget your present H2h will get a good premium if sold on eBay especially if you set it up and make it plug and play.

I know what you mean about the risk, but it's always been there and it's part of the reason I always end up with second best. The better connectivity of the VU would also mean I could sling my cable connection upstairs easier if sat finishes.

My H2H would go upstairs (where I have a sat connection) and the H1 would be relegated, and I would imagine that would be less in-demand.

I also have quad+ and agree with maca but don't rule out the xtrend range. Same chipset as quad+ and to be honest my et8000 is a tad quicker than the quad in real life. Et8500 is the current equivalent to the quad but I'm sure the et10000 runs with very similar specs to the duo2

Thanks, but component connectivity is a deal-breaker.

They are all e2 and whatever the vu runs the rest will. The only difference between the vu and any other e2 receiver is that the vu will run on blackhole. Unless of course you are trying to connect some legacy equipment by Scart or composite cables

I use Dreambox Sr4's and I have one conected to my M1 slingbox with great results all you need Tony_i is a HDMI to component convertor off the bay
?9 delivered from China, takes 3/4 weeks can't go wrong.
I also bought a H2H a few months ago not happy with it and the slingbox doesen't like it either so it is now sat waiting for me to offload it.

I also use a cheap Chinese convertor with my H2H and the Pro-HD slingbox works fine. It's not ideal though (eg the H2H has to be set at 1080i when it's working, and it's generally a bit unstable). I certainly wouldn't buy a ?300+ receiver that couldn't do away without the convertor weak link.

Yeh the H2H just kept locking up plus I am a PLI man and there was to many issues, I did get it set up ok with Open ATV everything running ish but I can never get the c*ms to start up everytime on boot.
I look after a few Dm's and never had many issues with them arround ?80 a pop.....cheap as chips and I can not justify or see the benifit of spending any more, especially ?300+
Stick with what you have....spend your savings on the Mrs

Update: I took the plunge, and my VU+ Duo2 arrived a couple of days ago. Just fitted an unused 750GB 3.5" hard drive this morning and enjoying learning about its capabilities. Loving it.
