    Sat box recommendation

I've been using a Dreambox 500c but they don't work round these parts no more so I'm planning to get a sat system.

What would people recommend as a good Linux box to work with a motorised dish?

I've been quite happy with the Dreambox on cable, but I wondered if these are the best choice for sat, or would I be better with a Technomate?

    Any help appreciated........

I have a DM500S and it works fine with a motor although I have heard some reports of clones not driving motors properly so may be worth going down the technomate route as at least that won't be a clone.

As for having a minidish if you can repoint it at 13e or 19e you'll find some goodies (especially if you set it up with CS) but keeping the dish pointing at 28.2e would be pointless unless you have a valid sky sub.

I have had the TM500 and DM500 and i have fired them right next to each other for multiple tests. The TM won when it came to power, reliability and ease.
The DM won all out for the gadgetty side.

I have sinced sold my Dm500 as it wasn't as good as the TM.

If you are going down the Dreambox route then go for the genuine ones if at all poss. DM500 are not made any more and havn't been for a couple of years, that's not to say all of the fakes are no good, just don't be under the impression you are buying a Dreambox when you're not, so when someone says they've compared the two we don't really know what they've compared... I can't really see how the TM500 can have been that much easier to use in any case as both the Dreambox and the TM500/600/9100 are Enigma based so very similar in operation...

Coolstream HD-1 is also well worth a look if you are looking to go for a Linux based HD receiver, plenty of addons and third party support for this one already, it's at least worth a look while you've yet to decide.

                  TM500/600
                  2 scarts and rf out
dm500 no rf out 1 scart.
Delete channels on dm500 and they come back
delete channels on TM500/600 they stay deleted

Just a couple of pros for TM500/600
Also volume is higher on TM and imo picture is sharper.

That sounds good, must admit I did find it annoying on the DM500 when the channels re-appeared

I'm thinking of going for the TM6800 HD, any opinons on that?

Plus for the DM500, plenty of choice over images to use, plenty more third party addons, can be used directly with CCcam including the internal card reader (this may or may not have been sorted out in TM now, don't know?), no receiver imo will EVER have more third party support than a Dreambox and I do think that counts for a fair bit...

That said however as I've said the DM500 that you buy now are fakes, so given that you are not comparing a geuine Dreambox then yes I'd probably go with the TM500, well TM600 to be honest with the small difference in price...

If though you are going for Dreambox go for the geunine ones, but expect to pay the price for that, also reccomend the PLi Jade 3 images for whatever Dreambox it may be, they offer something a little different from the others...

Box never ever crashes, the DM does. I know its a clone but im sure it replicates very well the initia Product.

To stop the channels re-appearing you just need to disable background scanning and delete the channels from the 'All services' bouquet.

If it is constantly crashing then I'm afraid it doesn't replicate the originals, and this just goes to prove the point I was making.
