Need Help Losing Vermin
An 80cm to 100cm motorised dish and a Linux based satellite box is a must, particularly if you have broadband.
Dreambox and Technomate both do good boxes and the Technomate 2300 super dish motor is also a good buy.
There are many options regarding Common Interfaces, smart card readers, embedded multi card readers etc., etc.
If you only need footie then an alJaz 1 to 8 card could start you in CS. You will loads of help and advice to set it all up on this forum.
