where to start?

Hi all,

I am new to the sat scene, and am asking what is the best possible outcome if i buy a sat system?

I am currently following the cables scene, but as you are aware this could be ending soon.

I think basically what im asking in simple terms is, can i buy a sat box/dish etc, and receive any/many of the channels which sly have to offer?

sorry for being a newb, but gotta start somewhere!
