Looking to set up a Satellite system, can you advise me?

    Hi there,

Have just moved to the UK from Ireland, North East.

Have a whole host of cable experience, and have an Openmedia box that i've brought over with me, to use on the Satellite side of things over here.

I have been reading a bit on the forum, i would rather buy what i need now for a more advanced set up, even though i'll be starting off as a newbie.

So i've come to the conclusion i'll be needing a 100cm dish, is a 95cm dish much different from that?

Also i'll be buying a motorised unit for it, i understand a good one is required, on just one site i've looked on, which seem to post here, there are 3

Satellite Motors and Accessories Sat-Shop.co.uk - Sat-Shop.co.uk Online Satellite and Electronics Store from Lavatronics

are these any use? or are there more premium ones available elsewhere?

    Cheers for any help.

Just started out on the sat scene myself given that cable is coming to an end. Mind you the installer i used was ~~~~ing hopeless and i dont get a great deal in terms of sats. i am going to take it down and do it myself.

Anyway the concensus seems to be 1m dish is what you need but the 95cm dish will do a very similar job. the quality of the dish can make a difference though mate i done tons of reading up.

the tm motors are good from what i gather. i use the tm2600 ?40.00 delivered on ebay.

i bought a gibertini dish 1m very good price here the lowest i could find in the uk (its actually 95x102cm).

    Cardmania - Dishes

one of the best lnb on the market is meant to be the inverto black ultra. i bought a smart titanium 0.1db which also gets good reviews.

there will be lots of other set ups you could use and some of the more experienced guys will hopefully give you a steer.

    good luck.

Hi m8,dish size should be first on your list, bigger the dish the more your see. Some lnbs may squeeze abit more signel, hmmmmm.I see your moving 2 the North East,if i was you i would not go under a meter in dish size,a 1.2 would be better.

        Thanks for the replies guys,

Yeah i had imagined a 1m dish would be the requirement, but i do understand that the signal might not be as strong here in the North East, if i can find a 1.2 that suits my budget for now i'll grab it.

As for the motor i'll go with the tm2600, the price seems good. I'll google a few reviews first.

I'll have to look more into the lnb's it is not something i have looked at yet, but thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I think my Openmedia box will do for now, as far as i'm aware its a dm500s clone on the sat side of things. I was using it for cable back in Dublin - and had the DK sat image running on the sat side of things. My dad had a dish up for freesat so i was getting whatever channels i could pick up on that astra sat, mainly just the extra itvs were the bonus

am looking forward to getting into this, once again thanks,

i'll no doubt be back for more advice

helo m8 welcome to the northeast, re size of dish, what sats are you looking for if you want nile sat 2.5 metre dish if want what i would call the basics then start with a 1 metre or over, at this moment ime useing a triax 1.1 with a stab 120 motor and clear anything from 42 east to 30 west with ease

if you are looking at spending some cash then i would go for a technomate linux based reciver which will open up more avenues for you , or for a bit more a dreambox 8000hd

Cheers thanks. I suppose i'm looking to get whatever i can get, i don't know the posibilities available i'll have to read through the forum for that. I'd say i'll go with starting on a similar set up to yourself and see how it goes. I think i might have to get back to you when i get to that stage!

I have an Openmedia (DM500S clone) at the moment that i've brought with me, I'd love HD, football looks amazing on it, but i don't think i could blow all my budget on a HD reciever, but i am assuming that they are on the expensive side?
