WHi Donkeyboy, hope I dont steer you wrong but if it is your first time with dishes etc. you could get in at the shallow end with a Lidl/Aldi kit. I have found the Lidl-silver crest box to be as good as other more expensive boxes that I have and you get all the gear -dish 80cm(get you most satellites)cable ,satfinder, all that you need for (well its 59.99 euros in ireland) a reasoneble price, but try and get other advice as well. Best of luck. The above price in euros should be 79.99 and not as stated. Sorry.

i would say a bottom end linux box technomate 500 or a dreambox 500s, a rooter for your internet if you dont alreay have one, a motor say atechnomate 2300 as metal not plastic gears, a good sized dish minimum of 80cm to 1meter, a satfinder meter, coax, and 4 f-plugs a long ethernet cable to reach you new sat box from your rooter or a set of homeplugs for netwoking and a big box of patience , 100 woodbine extra strength a good pair of ear plug for the kids so they cant hear you swearing

You could try the forum sponsors and see if you can work out discount or something though I have never brought anything myself from these sellers. I have not counted but I reckon there are possibly 3000 to 5000 channels available if you have a motorised dish so might be a bit difficult to list all of the channels. If you are prepared to do everything yourself like installing the dish than you could probably get away with spending ?200 otherwise you are probably looking at spending ?400. If you are not pc or technically orientated then you might regret spending the money as when firestorm says "100 woodbine extra strength a good pair of ear plug for the kids so they cant hear you swearing" he is not joking! For some people paying S*y is a better option.

There is 3000-5000 channels loads of factors effect the channels you can view ie location, dish size ect, full kits are easy enough to find and cheap enough..never seen any on the sponsors mind.

                      I agree with satsid

You can get away with an 80 or 90, but really best go for 1m to cover most birds.

Don't try saving cash on a cheap motor, false economy, I bought 2 cheap motors a few years ago, 1 failed just over 12 months, the other just didn't do usals properly.

Personally, I now have a genuine stab motor (stab invented usals), although I read good reports on Technomate motors.

A cheap DM500 clone works very well here.

If you haven't fitted a motorised dish before, then have a very good read up. Easy when you know how, but a nightmare if you don't fully understand.

Also think of things this way, cable has just one service provider.
                      Satellite has lots and lots!

A 1m motorised dishpack can be bought for ?125 (including brackets, bolts, coax etc) and a clone DM 500 for around ?60, so a half decent setup can be had for well under ?200 these days.

how do you know its a clone..??

Dream Multi Media havent made the D500 for over two years and their final genuine boxes flew off the shelves..

Any 'new' D500 is a clone..

you would be better buying a Technomate TM500.. better quality and made by a reputable company

i'm looking for a motorised dish setup in the northwest area and could do with a local supplier who will help me get the most from it rather than buying off the net if anyone could send me any contacts be much appreciated.
