    SAT help

    Hi

I'm looking to go down SAT route. I have managed to set up 500c okay and it seems to me that the SAT route may involve more regular maintanance but thats okay, I'll learn with the help of this forum.

However one thing is for sure I will not be able to install the required equipment myself. I'm based in E. London and was wondering if there is anyone here (I can't find sponsors) who can install or recommend an installer. I would really like Prem football and discovery/history channels and movies etc. I'm not too bothered about sky cs but it would be nice to have the equipment in place that if I chose to look at it in the future it would just be add on parts rather than replacement. However do I need some kind of cs to watch the football?

I know there is going to be a massive migration from VM to SAT, so I'm ready to do the move now.

From what I have read a 1m motorised dish should do the trick, but I have a relative who is not too technically minded that seems to have a much larger dish than that at the back of their garden to allow them to watch football. Is that just their lack of knowledge or is 1m too small. (they live in same area)

Anyway. Can anyone suggest an installer for me, or at least let me know what I need the installer to supply.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Mate,
I'll try to answer all your question, in the london area your best bet is try alsat as they will be able to give you a good isntallation price, however no harm in trying yourself first then getting someone to align it, much cheaper for alignment than fittitg aswell..

a 1M dish would be pefectly adquate, some people like bigger dishes so they can get more eastern satellites but then your taking 1.5-2M which you wont need just for prem footie as most is visible on a Hotbrd & Astra so 1M dish would be fine.

its going to be a lot of reading ect to migrate over but worth it...

If you go over 1.2m for the dish than you will need planning permission.

I think planning permission requirements seems to vary a little from councils to council. It is a little worrying watching all these people jumping into the sat scene with both feet when S*y are just starting to change their cards.

Is that just an impact on cs. I am really a complete newbie to sat. I would miss the prem footie, champions League and the test cricket. I like discovery and history channels from s*y line up but the movies I can live without.

Do I need to be concerned about s*y changing their cards?

CS is done on multiple providers not sly itself.

DigiTV with latest keys will give you what you need for now.

Read the Rules here; they apply to Everyone.

I definately will not be going up any ladders. I hear mixed feedback with regard to alsat on this forum. Is it something I need to worry about? (also they only seem to have 95cm dishes - is that ok)

I see they don't supply 500s but I was gonna look at Technomate. Should I buy everthing from them or wil they just install if I buy elsewhere?

Basically. Help! What reciever should I buy that will allow me the most flexability. Is HD worth considering (VM for me was never a consideration for there were no channels of any worth). I used 500c but always did fancy PVR600.

I am more thanhappy to but receiver that gets the most support from this forum.

I find Dreambox 500c easy to do, but it always is easy when you know how. I must admit in the early days it did feel difficult, but not impossible.

Sorry for all the questions, but I just don't really know where to start.
