    Practical or Problems ?

I've recently bought a 1mtr motorised set-up , and my problem is , i live in a bungalow with tall trees bordering the south facing rear garden , which means i need a pole 2.5mtr above the roof apex to clear them .
My plan is to make 2 brackets that enable me to set the dish latitude at roof level , then push the whole thing up like a periscope with the motor "zero'd" , then rotate the "periscope" to fix the longditude .
It's the only way , i can come up with , (barring a bit of illegal tree felling!) , or shimming up a 50mm x 2.5mtr high pole !.

    I'd appreciate any help / advice .

I"m afraid you will still need access to the dish once its at its final height as you will have to adjust it up/down to tune in your target sat. your latitude can be set on the motor itself at ground level as this will not need altering once set.
it will be virtually impossible to pre set all the brackets and get a result without tuning the motor/dish assembly using a meter or haveing sight of a tv while doing it.the dish needs to be about twice the distance from the trees as they are high. the guide I"ve posted is for a technomate but other systems will be similar and there is a really good motorised set up guide in the stickies.

Thanks very much for that mate and having read your guide and Krazylegs sticky , understand where your coming from.
The problem i have is the trees , they're just about at the min distance from where the dish will live , but due to council budget cuts , the only time they're maintained is when one blows over in high wind and threatens to damage your property , so as you see , i'm a bit stuck.

My plan was to make 2 guide bushes and clamps , that will allow me to raise and lower it for the nesessary "tweaks" , put a sat meter in line , so that when it's raised , it goes back to the exact same hieght every time and i can then rotate it from roof level to get my final setting ?

The more i look at it , it's the only way i can think of , or go Satless for a year or 2 , until the council decide to prune the trees!
Many thanks for your advice and top guide !

depending where you are in cheshire a local dealer fitted a 1.2 mtr
dish fitted on the side of the house well below the fascia boards and gutters
with the next door house about 20 feet away and i get all the sats from
east to west so if the tree's are about the same distance or further they
might be able to help you, the dealer is at disley

Thanks for that Mate , if i was in a house it wouldn't be a problem , but it's a bungalow , so only approx 5mtr to the apex , with the obstructing trees 10-12mtr high and the same distance away . My sky packed in 2yrs ago as a result .
I've got a chainsaw, but no bottle for heights ! , i just want them topping , as they provide privacy , but the council operate a "slash + burn" policy .
          Thanks again .

if you have a chainsaw cant you attack the trees at the bottom..?? call the council, say some cowboy came and tried to chop 'em down now they are unsafe.. they will come and finally pull them down

Ahaaa OPS, you have a plan for everything, just like your 10M Dish,
but he has a good point, cause some damage to them, claim there unsafe its then the council's responsibly to make the area safe.

Some of them are unsafe anyway Fella's , as they've not been thinned out for 5yrs or so and as a result , shot up like bamboo !.
In the last high winds , the council were out within 2hrs , as my neighbour rang them to say one of them was about to demolish his new car and the bill would be in the post same day !
But as i said in my previous post , i just want them thinning and topping not chopping , as they offer some privacy from a mental hospital backing on to my back garden, i'll probably end up in there before i get my sat sorted !!

At the moment , i've got my old sky dish , on a 1.8mtr extension , plugged into my ?18 ebay technomate TM-1000 CI and am viewing some channels on it , i've just done a scan on 19.2E astra 1 , which pulled in over 1000 TV and radio channels , does this mean my receptions good enough to
mount my new kit at this height ? , if so , i can just walk up the bungalow roof to do whatever "tweaks" are needed , with an in line sat finder , maybe ?? , HELP !!!
Apologies if my replies are starting to look like a telephone directory ! Thanks again !

If you can get 19.2E ok you should get at least 16E,13E,9E,5E,1W,5W, and a few more as well as 19.2E as they are all higher in the sky.your motorised 1mt dish will get those sats ok.If you follow the "how to install a motorised dish"guide in the stickies you will be fine.

Thanks for that Mate , i've had a few good reads of the stickies, but won't be romping up the roof in the next few days in case i end up like Rod Hull !
