Can someone recomend me a basic satellite system?

After Nagra3 getting rolled out, I'm thinking off jumping ship from cable to sky/satellite.

Can someone recommend me a decent yet cheap setup? Also, is it easy to install yourself? I have a ladder and a drill and i'm not scared of heights

Infact there is a couple of disused Sky dishes on my building, could these be used? Run a cable from the LNB to the set-top box?

Any help and info into the new world of satellites for me would be much appriciated.

    Thanks

depends on price you want to pay you could get a box and dish for around ?100 if you fancy a cheapo i would recommend paying around ?300 and getting a dish of around 1m, a motor and a cloned dreambox 800hd

You wont get nothing except FTA from the sky dishes. It all depends what you want from the satellites. As thered said best option is a Dreambox and motorised dish.

this is true with the money it would cost setting anything up right now cheapest option is sky , but that's short term ,
however free HD box and channels for so long u cant really go wrong ,but remember with a sky dish your only gonna get about 700 channels where if you had a motorized dish you could have 1000's of channels from all over europe

              Thanks guys.

I was thinking off purchasing a Dreambox 500S, connecting a satellite dish to it (either the disused sky ones or a new one) and purchasing a monthly service that I am not allowed to discuss on here for ?15-20 per month.

Would this work okay? What dish would be best, what size etc.

Also whats the benefits of a motorised dish compared to a standard one? Does the motorised dish move itself and find satellites to get you extra channels?

I have on old 60cm dish that we had for the camper (been used once...), might purchase a reciever, hang the dish from the window and if i'm good to go, purchase a higher spec setup.

Forget the fixed sky dish m8. Go for the motorised one. The Dreambox moves the dish to different satellites. You can get thousands of different channels that way

Cheers bulldog. Think i'll go for that setup after the year m8. I'll be getting someone else to fit it though, had a look at the sticky in this forum on how to fit a motorised dish and it seems complicated as hell

Guess I could give it a go, if I fail then get the pro's in

One last thing, on my south facing wall, there are some tree's directly in front of the wall, would this affact the signal quality? Also, do you need planning permission to put a dish on a stair building?

                          Thanks again lads

I would personally say go motorised but buy all Equipment yourself!!

As sat installers are known for over charging for gear! they do combination prices which are OTT compared to 2 seperate prices
