    supplier in northwest any contacts?

    hi
i'm looking for a motorised dish setup in the northwest area and could do with a local supplier who will help me get the most from it rather than buying off the net if anyone could send me any contacts be much appreciated.

you have posted this already mate..

if you want an installer use the yellow pages.. if its the equipment you want try one of the forum sponsors like Cam-Sat

Very few suppliers do installs and very few installers do supplies.. if they do expect 50% to be added to the cost minimum

yer soz about that posted a reply in another thread then thought should of just started my own. Just had a couple of problems previously setting up a dm500c that i bought off net and had no one to ask for help so thought it would be good to deal with someone local who understands what there sellling and might be able to give a bit of advice on what system would suit me best. I would probably be fine doing my own install just not too good on picking a system and would like to know theres someone to call if i run into any problems.

satellite dreambox requires a good technical knowledge.. its far more difficult than cable boxes which are plug and play.. if you are after Sky UK then forget it as its not open.. if you are after football and movies try a Protek 9600 its very easy to set up and administrate..

an installer wont give you help on the receiver mate once its all setup.. eg how to get channels, flash the machine etc

more for the football than anything else, but obviously would also like some kind of backup for when it all goes black on vm.I know cant get sky but want to get the most i can for free! appreciate your suggestion for the receiver want to keep things as simple as poss. As i said i think i should be ok with putting up the dish etc its just a case of some good advice at the begining and knowing i have someone to call if it does go off and a bit of searching on the net dosent sort it. Just prefer going to a shop and talking somene rather than reading websites

independent satellite shops are few and far between mate, most are net based, there is one by me but he doesnt sell Dreamboxes, when i went in there 2 years ago and enquired he was pretty stonewall in his answers about dreambox..

because of the ability to view Pay TV illegally shops and tradesmen will not really help you.. at the end of the day it will cost them their livelihood

fair point, spose I'll just keep asking round and put it on the back burner, been reading all the stickys and looked at the forum sponsors sites but still dont feel i know enough to go out and buy anything, too much choice and peoples obvious reluctance to advertise the systems full capabilitys seems to make picking the right system difficult.

Dreambox will open up all the channels you need.. but its extremely difficult to setup unless you have very good IT skills.. it requires modifications to your broadband router and LAN/WAN as well as the ability to transfer files and linux code to the box..

a plug and play receiver like the Protek will open a few packages but the choice is very limited

i did eventally get my head round (mainly using ur guides and youtube videos) the 500c and needed to go through my router etc is it a similar set up just more involved? would prefer to put a little more effort into the origional setup and get the most from it.

Your D500C wont last much longer as Virgin Media rolls out new encryption meaning it will not decrypt channels..

D500S is a lot more complex..

To get the most out of it you need to be able to..:

Port Forward your router to accept incoming signals
Make your ISP IP address static by creating a DynDNS account
Network the dreambox on your home network to allow you to input linux code..
Your box also requires to be on a minimum of standby 24/7 as it is constantly communicating..

The above is a minimum requirement.. then you have to learn about cardsharing and servers but that is a banned topic here

i can do the leaving it on for 24/7 not sure about the rest! (but its amazing what you can turn your hand to if everything else goes off and the pressures on) think I'll just keep hoping that n3 will be sortable soon , Im sure when n2 came out there was similar panic? Will the mod'd vm boxes be going off too?

N3 has been out in the satellite world for over 2 years now.. its as safe now as the day it was made..

please read the rules.. talking about the modification of cable company equipment (VM own the boxes the customer doesnt) is strictly prohibited..

google is your friend here, its not as bad as opsmomkey is making out, but it is a bit daunting, you need a few good programs to get you started, then plenty of reading, i will help you as much as possible, get your dreambox set up 1st then start another post, i will help as will others, just do as much as you can on your own then ask specific questions for the stuff you get stuck on, cheers steve welcome to dreambox world, pm your email addy & i will send you a few programs & quides i have.

N2 was a gift, as was connax for that matter. Maybe in years (years my friend) when N3 is near to its end life, it will be another gift.

There will be no crack anytime soon, Rupert will not allow it this time!!!!! You would be as well getting Vermin or Sly, they are as good packages as any around europe (apart from 3pm footy).
