SKY VIEWING CARD AND DREAMBOX WARNING

This has probably been brought up here before
but with the cable boxs starting to go down
there will be alot of people moving over to satellite
    and sky subs

i received a message from a user today who will remain anonymous out of respect

"I have managed to get my Sky white card working using newcs + cccam ( i didnt want to use 2.1.3 ). Now i was wondering if my card will burn at 368mhz ( overclock ) in the internal card reader on the dm500s. Approximately how hot should the card get before i find myself in need of removing it ? "

i just like to take the opportunity to post this, as its very important you all know and understand this

DO NOT use the DM card reader for your white sky viewing card
the dm smart card reader runs at 5V this viewing card is only set-up and built to run at 3.3V ,if you use in your dm you will find it gets very hot , and eventually burn out ,this is down to the incorrect voltage

so save yourself some time and greaf of having 2 explain to sky why u melted your card and get yourselves a external smart card reader such as OMNIKEY or smargo reader
    i know this apply's to all DM500s Gen + clones ,
be sure to check your card reader voltage on your receiver before using , hope this helps guys

Sorry if I have to correct you---but the white card works perfectly with CCcam 2.1.3 with no overcooking---------it also works 100% using CCcam2.1.3 + OScam if by any chance you are CSing. The overheating effect was discovered in the older versions of CCcam but has been overcome in the updated version of 2,1.3-----------I use in Dream 7020's and 500s with no problems.
Any minor overheating in 500s can be cured by raising the height of the box by applying cork bottle stoppers to the four rubber feet and also ensuring plenty of airspace around the apparatus.
My boxes are on 24/7 and so far no problems here or reported to me.
    regards.

my sky card actually gets hotter in the official sky box than in a dm500.

card is in a dm500 24/7 with no issues whatsoever

Sounds very interesting, however.....I have a clone DM500s right here in my hands, and there is no USB port available to plug a Omnikey or a Smargo. Do certain model DM500s have a USB then ??

this is now a very old thread, issues with the burning of the cards have been addressed with cccam you can run your card no probs in the internal reader, but as per usual dont put your dreambox on top of say another electrical item, video, dvd etc keep it well ventilated
