dont bother they only open one package namely DigiTV on Thor..

to open the vast majority of satellite channels you need a linux box and have to have an almost expert IT knowledge.. networking, making ISP IP address's static, inputting linux code etc

That's for the Linux box.. Only a few channels open with the technomate and they aren't going to be open for much longer

I dont have an expert knowledge of IT and neither do my mates (especially them) but they get by with Linux boxes. Admittedly they dont use the box to its full potential like streaming from PC to TV or vice versa, but they can view other packages.

I think if you are willing to learn and do a fair bit of reading and have the patience of a saint, the go for the linux box if you have 60 quid to spare.

            port forwarding your router
            setting up a network
making your ISP IP address static
creating then linking a DynDNS address
inputting linux code into config files
            using ftp

not exactly basic IT is it..

ebay is littered with boxes from users who cant set them up.. as is this forum.. its best to be honest than to tell people to spend ?60 and make out its easier than it is

the channels that are open at the moment will be moving to an encryption that is not open.. the patched boxes wont be able to open them.. the encryption type is very secure..

Videoguard is NDS.. an extremely secure encryption.. the only way to view these is with an official subscription to sky if you dont want to go down the linux route...

Can i add, usage of a linux receiver needs the user to,
                  Know how to ftp
                  Know how to network
                  Know how to use telnet
Know how to port forward in a way you do not get hacked
                  Statify your ISP ip
Be able to live with pixelation
Know how to link a network device (box) to a specific port which has been forwarded

                      THE TRUTH
                      The Hillsborough Independent Panel. 12/09/12

Today's report is black and white. The Liverpool fans were not the cause of the disaster.
The panel has quite simply found 'no evidence' in support of allegations of 'exceptional levels of drunkenness, ticketlessness or violence among Liverpool fans' and 'no evidence that fans had conspired to arrive late at the stadium' and 'no evidence that they stole from the dead and dying'.

If everyone thought the same we would not get anywhere... How do you get the skills to be able to do these things, you read, ask and listen.... Then put it into practice.. I admit that at first a lot of it is alien to people, but thats why I said you need the patience of a saint..

THere is enough people willing to help, and I had a lot of help when I set mine up, now its dead easy.. And I am sure it would be for newbies if they are willing to put the effort in, and if they are, as you know the rewards are well worth it.

( NO Offence intended- I am using Facts )

The OP said he didnt go to school, his spelling is very poor and therefore he will find it extremely difficult to understand alot of the guides and jargon CS creates within itself.

Of course there are sites out there who will help with this sort of thing but it is a very time consuming thing and needs alot of patience, Plus once you think you are set up you will find you are not. Alot of time needs to be put behind a watchable CS server.
