Where dm500 beats all rivals is on CS. Support for a technomate is not as good as a dreambox.

In short one needs to just look at this forum different sections for a Technomate and that of dreamboxes. After looking you can conclude which box is popular.

And i dont thing the thousands who flock to dreambox are incorrect. The little dream machine simply rocks no matter what others say about technomate, azbox, humax, etc

We are talking of a newbie here. Dm500 is the best choice to start with in my opinion.

We are not talking about which box beautifies your lounge more than the other. Its not at a beauty contest.

Pleanty of expanding oppotunities with a dreambox than any other box

Hi m8,if you want quality equipment on dish motor,go the 36 volts root.reasonable buget,if your willing to spend abit more, get a channel master dish. The channel master dishes are high gain & you will not be sorry.

                O ma Daiiz. .

I have everyday access to these,
                TM500,
                TM600,
                DM500 (clone)
                AZbox
                Fortec Mercury2.

When it comes to tuners, the cheap American Fortec star which has blind scan is probably the best.
TM500 has a very good tuner and probably is the best way to go now as these are made by professionals and can do everything the dm500s can.

As for dish size, if you want everyday viewing then 90cm is fine, if you want to be able to get as many channels as possible you should get a 1.2 and if you enjoy feedhunting the definitely a 1.5 > 2.4m.

Read the Rules here; they apply to Everyone.

Some good points been made in here, have had a couple of receivers me self over the years and at the min have a db8000 nothing out there can touch this beast at the min and if you have the money would be the way to go you will learn quick but if you dont have the money for that then look at another hd receivers linxu based as there is loads of hd chans out there for sat, as satsid says i would be looking at a 36volt motor dont have one but a couple off my friends do and they are a lot better than the 12v ones move alot faster and pull the chan in quicker as the tunner is not using its power to tune the motor you would be using the likes of a vbox in line with your receiver but then this all comes down to how much you are able to spend

Just a quick add on 36v,Some receivers with 36v i find better than a vbox. But a vbox will cost less.

only ever seen them used with a vbox or the likes but i would def go for a 36v motor if changing my dish and motor set up

Hi 2tone,iv used both in past.Today i stick with receiver & built in positioner 2 move motor. Some of the old alog receivers were great for this job, might find some on ebay today.Tm 5500 DACIP has a built in positioner & works well.End of the day,i guess its how much someone wants to spend.

With all the talk about dreambox tuners being crap etc,why not go for the ITGate TGM220,linux based box, good support and capable of running cc.Got one on an 88cm dish with an Alsat Dark Satellite Motor.can get 1w 13e 19e 28.2 etc no probs.I got the lot shipped n all for about 140 quid plus fittings, cable,T and K mount.i'll let you know the shop if you need....cant think of it off the top of my head at the mo.

Dreambox all the way, provides ecellent Value for Money of all the receivers available.

If you have access to Cable as well as sat then you may want to consider the OpenMedia 500cs, which can do Sat and Cable. I have TM1500 which can pick up some transponders (very few) on 7 west, but my DM500 or OM500cs or Eagle cannot get anywhere near.

In all honestly, the DM500 / Eagle / OM500cs will get you (if setup correctly) 6000 + channels, and all for under ?80. A bargain if you ask me.

Or there is the Spiderbox ?180 ish for HD viewing and will get you all channels on 1w, 5e, 13 e and 19.2 e. Its an emebedded type linux box, and if you want HD viewing and are a beginner with linux setups it may well be worth looking at.
