I think newbies should keep it simple to start with....a 90cm on a diseq motor is fine...1.2 is pointless cos you wont get anything of worth that u cant get off a 90cm....then try a tm5400 and patch it for 1west(good for a while longer yet) and ease yourself into this hobby...then as you gain experience and confidence you can explore cs

Would this be a good beginner set?

And would a 90cm still pick up tonnes of channels up central Scotland way?

well thanks loads every one.I think i opened a cat of worms with this thread.I and probably others will have gained some good insigth from all ur advise.Although im a begginer i believe in getting the best set up i can within reason.I have invested over ?10000.00 on my home cinema system with each piece of equipment award winners and i have been very happy with with the results.Every one who comes round cant believe the quality of sound and picture. So the viewing of broadcast quality is very important also.I dont want to spend money for no reason. All my previous equipment has only been replaced because of new tecknowlegy never to break downs or quality probs.I think this has been down to me purchasing the best i can for my buget.HD would be good as im fully set up for that quality and i dont mind a bit installation.

the bestbox by far is the dm8000 it will go very nice with your set up and a 1.2m channel master dish is the best if you can get away with it on the side of your house

i dont think i will have a problem with dish size as i can always install in the garden at a push but i will need to check direction and obstruction issues but ground mounted in a secure rear garden would possibly have the benifits of better protection and eas of adjustments.

with the systems we have been discussing we are talking free to air arnt we as i dont fancy the taboo cs idea

i am very impressed with the quality of replies. Thanks all as i will be starting to get my set up over the next few months.I am getting a good idea of what need now.

its a 1 room setup and you cant see the ?10000.00 as thats the way i like it( i think its that time i spent installing descret ICE equipment for the wealthy that has rubbed off on me a bit ) its very minalist to be fair Arcam amp and DVD player.Panasonic Blu-ray AE full size speakers front and rear with 2 subs, sky +HD box and the fantastic sony 40'' LCD Z series.I dont get to give as much of a blast as i would like as it scars the neighbours.Nearly sh-t myself befor now when the action starts

Obviously you want HD, so go for the DM8000 if money is no object. Right here i am just as happy with SD.
I think if you saw spice on my system in HD you wouldnt be bothering for a private audition

The best quality system you can get would be:

                Channel Master/Andrew 120cm
                Jaeger SMR1224 motor
                Inverto or Invacom flange LNB
Qbox HD or the new Vu+ Duo receiver running Enigma2

Azbox now has blind scan, abit beta firm atm.It will find some feeds, but have to add right sr in box.Scans in 5mhz steps for now.Im sure sr & other mhz steps will be sorted out soon.Dont think thay go this far with out sorting other mhz steps or sr.Scan speed seems quite quick on 5 mhz atm.

Take a look at the Vu+HD the DM8000 HD's only like for like contender and is about 5/9ths of the price,

Read the Rules here; they apply to Everyone.

Having only owned Technomates and until a HD linux Tm comes out I would agree with a DM for c/s and a 1 metre powered by a 2600 Tm motor.
