Can anyone recommend a second hand box that i will need to activate a sly card ??

i just looked and very cheap

u can pay anything from 15? to 40? for a used bskyb receiver

will they be needed to be connected to a phone line as well ?? Some guy has told me his box was plugged into his phone socket.....I only want one to activate a sky card, so it will put away in my cupboard, and then only used for updating etc

i rang a week ago 2 request a local without setup or phoneline

they told me i would only need a phone line to access interactive

a phone line is no longer required to have a sky sub

i was very happy when i found this out

why bother buy a sly box just install cccam2.1.3 along side what ever cam your using
and switch to that to update, then switch back, thats assuming your using a different cam that is

So you are saying that if i order a new sky card, i can use 2.1.3 to register it etc ??? ( Thin ice here....)

i'd activate it in an official box, then i'd swap it into my dreambox and use CCcam 2.1.3
You need to put your boxkey into your CCcam.cfg then it will receive EMM's to update the card

its been covered in other threads, the latest version 2.1.3 will update ok

@ ops.......dont see the point using an official box to update mine updated fine recently in my dm600
and if you have more than the basic package ie sports/movies you need to put boxkey in cfg. anyway

yes, yours updated fine..

however the OP wants to ACTIVATE his card for the first time.. if, which happens sometimes he needs to call sky, they will have the card right off him if they go through a load of checks and then says.. "Err.. i dont have it in a Sky receiver".. its in the Sky T&C's.. "cards must not be used in 3rd party receivers"

maybe possible for him to use a mates box then
can 2 cards be paired to 1 box ???

no mate they cant.. each box can only have one paired card at any time

if its a no phone line install,,when u ring sly they will ask for the version number and serial number of the sly box ur card is in,then send the signals by satellite to activate ur card and pair it to the box its in....it cannot be activated in an unofficial sly box..if u do it in a friends box,his card will no longer work in the box,cos yours is now paired to it....

So i can get any second hand box approved by SKY.....connect it to my dish when its facing 28.2....put in the brand new card from sky.....ring them up ?? And they then activate the card ?? Then i can use my card in any receiver in my house ?? Then using 2.1.3 it will update itself from SKY automatically.
