    Idea

Ihave been toying with an idea should I ever go the motorised route. If you are familiar with scaffoldind-2 INCH GALVANISED poles joined together by clamps, bolts and nuts ,then maybe you are familiar with a neater version of this, sometimes used as handrails, where the ugly clamps are replaced by alan screws. I think that this wouls be an easier way of getting true plumb on a garden set-up. You could cement two vertical poles into the ground, then using two 90 degree elbows to put in the crossbar, remembering to put in a tee-piece in the middle of the crossbar, then tighten up.Out of the remainding hole of the tee-piece put a vertical length to your needs and another 90 degree elbow out of the free end of the vertical pipe and a short horizontal pipe out of the other end of the elbow making sure the horizontal bar is long enough so not to hinder the movement of the dish in the arc. Find plumd on the protruding horizantal bar and tighten both alan screws on the tee on the crossbar. Recheck plumb again and if you are satisfied the loosen and remove one alan screw on the crossbar ( THE CROSSBAR AND VERTICALS HAVE THE SAME SHAPE AS A PAPER STAPLE) AND USING A DRILL BIT SLIGHTLY SMALLER THAN THE INSIDE THREAD from where you removed the alan screw, just drill down enough to make a countersunk hole in the pipe below and tighten back your alan screw. When tight remove the other alan screw on the crossbar and repeat the drilling instruction, This will prevent any movement of the protruding pipe out to where you dish is anchored.I hope you can follow this and it`s open to questioning but I just wish i HAD THE FACILITY to produce a drawing or pic. Thank You.

Wind loadind on solid dishes will,in wet weather, cause the soil around the cement support to soften and/or shift and I thought that a two pole base set up would minimise this.

The post is about setting up of (hopefully) a longer life frame to keep your motorised dish plumb taking into account wind loading on a solid dish which must eventually knock your dish off plumb.

decapod it is for me, i think this idea is far to complex for a non DIY type person though,

I spent a horrible day digging/boring a hole in waste rock to cement my pole in and I reckon it's not a bad idea, because you wouldn't need a 3ft deep hole to do the above. It would probably cost you fifty quid in brackets though.

I have 12 foot scaffolding pole stuck 6 foot into the ground at the bottom of the ground. he pole has stayed plumb straight despite some pretty severe weather, my only problem has been that the pole has managed to turn very fractionally in the ground. Might have prevented this by sticking some sort of scaffolding bracket at the end of the pole before burying into the ground.
