      Wrong

Installers are contractors for sky some times

Anyone in a sky van is an employee not a contractor on a sky salary with pension/healthcare etc unlike the contractors.

        Not anymore!
in the van it could be but doesn't mean they are installers
installers most of them are contractors they get paid by the installation. Much cheapper for sky!!

Yes as jackpot has mentioned i used to be a bsky engineer and was employed directly by sky..with free broadband and multiroom..you can tell a sky employee by the fact he will have a wrapped van,and will cancel the install at the earliest opportunity,if he has to go above the sixth rung of the ladder..the team i worked in were a useless bunch of so and so,s with no general satellite knowledge at all..unlike you peeps on here...and like to tell customers they are not allowed on roof,s when indeed they can and are trained to do so........sky,s biggest business partner is avc which have twice as many engineers in the uk as sky have...and dont get the same perks as sky lads...but get a basic wage and bonuses for the amount of work they do...and earn a lot more than sky employees....i now work for a company who subs off avc after a years lay off..and if your in the ng nottingham postcodes you may bump into me one day..

glad i went self employed years ago ... as the lad a bove says ..sky engineers ( ) will do anything to cancel job ..they only do basic install no matter how it looks and at a certain height ,,,mind sky give them to many jobs aswell ..not enough time in the day for some ..

alot of subbies round here aswell and putting in rg6 cable all the time and it aint sky approved .. or decent copper copper cable ..but they get paid hardly nowt ..

i personly dont install sky anymore only repairs ..cause they have hardware issues on their sky + and hd systems and they will not admit it ..

i think all these guys do all day is chageing sat recievers all the time ..

makes you wonder eh .. just my view ..
              dreambox 800 tech 500 ( ubuntu 10 .04)... 1 m dish v box 2 acuator ..

Wrong pal, there are engineer's that work strickly for Sky(not contractors)however at least half is contracted out

Sky van = sky engineer non sky van = contractor

i used to sub off first line digital untill they were taken over by AVC and was offered to go employed and earn a piss poor salary from them i obviously declined the offer, but i have been informed by a friend who still works for them that AVC are going to have all their vans stickered up like sky and wear the same uniform. i dont know how true this is but that is what he told me.....BJ1

I subbed for SKY direct in the good old days , that was before the greedy contractors got there feet under the table and installations payments went tumbling down.
I done six years as a contractor with 3 teams and was forced to quit well not forced, but told them where they could stick it.

They the main subbys cut corners employed monkeys and the game went down hill especially the winter brigade who would install in front of tree's , only for the pro's to go back on a service call and be expected to fit on a chimney for peanuts.

ive seen lads with a family told to go into debt for a new van and equipment only to be told there's no more work after the xmas rush.

i could go on but i got out in time with SKY conning me out of ?5.000

                    Dont go there :.

yes m8 the good old days when the customer paid you a extra 40 quid out their own pockets if you had to put it on the chimney..... so a lot of subbies were putting them on the chimney when there was no need to and paid you for any extra cable or fittings used.... it used to be a good earner before fld took over.
