hard drive problem with sky plus

    Hi everyone,
i have just been given this sky plus box, dont know a lot about these boxes hence the question. Does the hard drive stay on all the time once the box is turned on. Im assuming its the hard drive i can hear and its annoying, is this normal to be able to hear the drive... perhaps this is why i was given the box???

ours used to do that until we turned off the "Anytime tv" thing in settings,
As it downloads crappy tv programs to the hard drive that you prob won't watch, even when the Sky box is turned off.

So it might be that m8...

you can replace the drive yourself dude.

Unless sky is gonna do it for you for free then you might as well get them to do it

The sky boxes take the standard Desktop HDD.

On remote: Got to number 6 "anytime tv setup" & where it says "enable anytime tv", set it to "NO", Then "Save new settings".

It will now stop downloading any pre-recorded programs, save you money & you can say you've done your bit for the enviroment...

Yes sidley, "services" that's the one...

But if you hav'nt got "anytime tv" then it can't be that then...
You must have a very old firmware on that box, sound almost as if it is a standard sky box without the "plus"..

i think something is not right with firmware because box is doing exactly what you said but the option you mention is missing. I have done a forced update, so any ideas?. Better add as i live in france and dont subscribe i have'nt bothered conecting second lnb, surely that would not cause this??

Anytime tv was one of the updates so it is possible that you just have not got the box updated to the latest firmware with it on.

But I am sure that if your not subscribed then you won't get it,
as I think you have to pay Sky minimum ?5 per month to make use of the "plus" so that you can do recordings ect.

I remember when I canx my subs with sky & when the sub channels went off all I could do was use it as a freview & could not use the hard drive in the box anymore to record even the free channels, also I had a few recordings on the hard drive that it would not let me play anymore,

I am not sure but I thought if your not subscribed with them, the hard drive gets locked or something.

If the forced update that your doing don't work out, then there are a few other thing you can try in the hidden system menus to see if it will help:

                        All the best m8

i have already done the things in the hidden menu and everything is still the same. From what i have been told you are correct in that i wont have any plus features but all i want at this stage is to stop the anytime tv which it would appear the box is stuck in that mode. There must be a way to turn it of???

Take out hard drive, you cant use it anyway as you do not subscribe.

As "fearona" say's, you may as take it out or @ least unplug it Sidley, seeing as you can't make use of it.

Then there should be no moving parts to make any noise m8...
