    Best dish & Lnb help

I am trying to recieve the new fransat channels on 5W AB3, I am doing this at my dads house so kinda of a pain (as he is ) was origanlly recieving secam channels so I know dish is on correct sat, tried a swop on Aston Simba HD box but for some reason cannot pick up fransat channels on it just loads of others, we are currently using a 60cm Dish placed behind a balcony wall for discreetness. my questions are as follows.

    1) we are currently using perforated metal dish but is a solid dish better?

    2) if I need a new LNB what do I look for, i.e sensativity and range.

    3) I do have a sat meter but been using the reciever inbuilt meter for fine tuning is this the correct way to go?

4)is the secam transponer stronger than the DVB Fransat?

5)Any other suggestions to improve signal i.e. how do I check if wall is not blocking part of the signal....

any help appreciated, I am assuming francesat card supplied does not need registering.....

hi m8, if you are receiving the analogue channels ok the you should receive the digital ones ok to. what do you mean by your receiveing loads of other channels? do you mean the fta channels. the analogue channels and the fransat channels use the same SUPER BEAM so theoretically should have the same eirp db. are the fransat channels "scrambled" or are you just not getting them? i would have thought that you would have to activate the card for the first time unless it was pre-activated, as for your reception questions.
    1. solid dishes are slightly better than mesh ones
    2. if you get a new lnb get a 0.1db-to-0.3db universal
    3. its up to you, if you can get a signal without a meter dont bother.
    4. there might be a slight difference but the eirp is 53db so it shouldnt matter.
    5. if your balcony was blocking the signal it would block the others as there are no great differences in db level between the transponders although it is possible but not likley.

could you list which transponders you are getting, fta or scrambled so as to give us a idea. regards mdt

Thanks MDT I will re-look at my set-up to see what can be done then, will factory reset the aston simba box and start from scratch as maybe I did something wrong as left it in french language for the set-up.....

might try a new lnb to see if I get a better signal as planning to use a twin lnb anyhow.

      big thanks
