    SPIDERBOX-9000 HD shelf life?

    I have been seriously thinking of purchasing one of these boxes, but one thing I don't know.........what can the box do once the 'gift' expires after a year?
    Will we need to purchase another gift and if you decide not to purchase the gift, then how good is the box?

    Any answers will be much appreciated.
    Cheers.

    my advice would be to buy a more supported box where you have control of any 'gifts'

      yes, I hear what you are saying. I thought the spiderbox was well supported enough.
      Still, i'd like to know what the box can do without any working gifts.

        The box in terms of spec is actually very good mate.

        1. Its HD of course;
        2. You can record to it using USB or HDD;
        3. It has inbuilt multi crypt CA;
        4. Supports the most popular emus;
        5. You can use it as a client for your c-line but not as a server. Not the end of the world if you only have one box and have no reason/intention of sharing;
        6. Home streaming;
        7. Blind scan function reported to be very good;
        8. Reported also to have a sensitive tuner which is always good;

        The box also opens by patch some excellent sats like everything else who knows how long this will last.

        There is a cheaper version available in the next week to 10 days which has slightly less functionality. The "gift" is, of course, the selling point and the channels on offer are excellent.

        Everything is a risk whether you go down this road or join a payserver (unless you are fortunate enough to get a good, reliable free server) you pays your money you take your choice.

          Is it easy to downlaod and install plugins or cams in Spiderbox? I use Nabilosat image on D500S and it is very easy to install any plugin or cam.
          Only concern is that I want a package which does not come in the gift so how easy it is to add a line to get this additional package?

            I think when opsmonkey says Support he means websites like this one and other general satellite hobby websites, Support from Spiderbox is all very well, but when they decide to pull the free gift eventually on everbody they will pull there website as well.

            These receivers are re-invented over and over again, a name change and new website and they are up and running once again.

            If anybody is thinking of buying a receiver there a few things you need to look for.

            1. cccam, mgcamd, newcamd fully supported. (Essential)
            2. Linux OS (once it has linux its supported by many programmers)
            3. Stay away from receivers that give free Clines (they are just to tempt you)
            4. buy something like a Dreambox / Technomate ( most supported receiver in Europe /World)

            If you buy something that most of us do not have we can not help you, and once your free gift runs out in a few months you basicall have a door stop without support, and then you end up buying something like a Dreambox that you should have bought in the first place, if you buy the wrong receivers in this hobby it will start costing you a lot of money in the long run.

              I,ve just bought a Protek500 which is basically a (hopefully) better than a clone DM500.
              Once their software stops working or no support is found, then I can treat it as a DM500.
              That is the plan so I steered away from the Spider.

                No you cant bud...if the server stops working then thats it for the 9600ip.....if you have the unix box then you have cccam as well as connectivity to the free server and linux....but the server has survived a couple of major attacks and keeps on going....

                  hi

                  im new to this forum however i own a spiderbox and an eagle linux box
                  when the so called gift expires gets turned off the box will be far from just a door stop
                  it has Cccam newcamd granted as a client only
                  with all its problems of freeze if people take the time to research the box this can be all but eliminated
