sorry for being a bit thick, but when you fit a motorised dish do you need also to get some kind of controller,or is it all in the receiver once set up

Most motors are driven by the receiver. So dish/motor/receiver is all you need and cable etc .

Have I understood correctly .. I have just invested in a dreambox 800 hd .. to replace my nokia mediamaster 9902 .. which has driven my motorised satelite dish .. Do I still need my nokia to change satelite or can the dreambox be programmed to do so ?? If so how ??

When you set up the dreambox for the first time you will be give a few options to choose from regarding what sort of dish you have...by selecting a motorised dish you will then be asked to enter your longitude and latitude coordinate settings for where you live...that is more or less it.....assuming your dish is aligned properly...
