When you have a Sky dish pointed at sky you can only receive sky, That's what i pointed out to him. A lot of people believe you can get Sky just by connecting a dreambox. Like you can with a cable box.

newbies that want to use a dreambox or technomate with an old sky dish (minidish) 9 times out of 10 think it will be able to open Sky easily.. most are migrating from cable boxes and expect it to be as similar and easy to open Sky as it has been to open Virgin..

i think Bulld0gs advice in post #3 is on the money..

in fact i reckon that fishnut was hoping to try and open Sky UK and was asking which box was best..

But he asked what was better a TM or a Dreambox... He didnt mention he wanted to open Sky at all...

If he didn't want to open Sky why did he mention it ? I think you'll find that's exactly what he wanted and he was asking what the best box would be to do this.

its pretty obvious he's asking which is the best to hook up to his old sky dish

its pretty obvious he's after opening Sky UK

its pretty obvious that if he manages to do this he'll stick a motor on his dish and try to open other European packages

its pretty obvious that you are here only for an argument

I am not after an argument at all... Sorry you think that way, and apologies if that is the way it has come across...

I just think when people ask questions, if you are going to offer any advice, it should be what they have asked, rather than what you actually think they want.

He does mention he is getting a motorised sat system, and for me TM's (patchable ones) are finished. So if you think he is getting a motorised dish do you think he will leave it on 28 east?

2nd thoughts,,, just leave it... Total different view on what was requested and what was given.

i think the only way this will be settled is if fishnut comes back and says what exactly he was after..

my months wages is on the angle that he wanted to know what box, either the dream or technomate, is best to use with his old sky dish to try and open Sky UK.. then after he'd done this he'd try and open other European packages by putting a motor on the old sky dish or get a new bigger dish..

there's about 3 posts a week all wanting to know similar advice..
that's why BD and other regulars can see the angle a question is pointing down

I have both boxes Dreambox 500s and Technomate Tm500 two things I have found with the Dreambox when you Auto Scan on
Astra,Eurobird 28 east certain channels like Mtv package,Cartoon network have no sound you have to manually select audio soundtrack think its the 4th one for each of those channels but once you've done that you won't have to do it again also AttheRaces only gives you the interactive video feed and not the original feed even if you change vpid you just get black screen with audio seems to only affect Dm 500s.I've tried all the images and channel editors with the same result.

On the Technomate Tm500 or 600 you have none of these problems audio tracks are correct no need to change them and vpid for Attheraces works as it should for both feeds I would recommend the Technomate.
