Complete newbie looking for a little advice.

    Hello all,

I'm a complete newbie on sat looking for a little advice on a package to get. Hopefully this is the right place to post.

What I am looking to get now is some more childrens channels, and possibly some sport. I have been reading around and it seems one of the Technomate kits available will be a good place to start.

I am thinking of getting a Technomate 6800HD super (seems I can get everything needed for approx ?300 (motor, 1m dish and box)). Or would I be better off with one of the 5400 CI+ as a starter system and then maybe add a HD receiver at a later date? I'm also a little confused about the linux boxes, will these do everything the 6800HD/5400 will do (or are they purely for CS)?

I'm also interested in if patches will continue to be available for the Techomate receivers (I read somewhere that Darkman was no longer doing them).

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Tony.

hi m8, as a starter kit id say get a tm 600 and 1m motorised dish as it will cost about ?200 and will get you everything that is available via keys/emu and has also got a lan socket for future use when you feel more confident and want to look into c/s then in future if you want to upgrade to hd then you can, also technomate are releasing a tm800hd soon which im guessing will be very similar to the 600 in os and so on. if you want a receiver that is basically plug and play and will open a dozen or so european packages for a one off payment then take a look at the protek9600ip/spiderbox 5000sd or their equivelent hi-def versions but to get access to the channels you need a active bb connection and router.
you can find all the help with software and d.i.y. installation help right here on dk. good luck! regards mdt

      Thanks mdt.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the 6800HD super could do CS (the super version has the LAN socket).

So will the TM 600 do everything that the 6800HD will do (move the dish etc)?

      Thanks again,

      Tony.

yes m8, 99% of receivers now will move a motorised dish using the diseqc 1.2/usals system. regards mdt
