fitting sky box to existing sky dish

my brother has just moved into his first place

Theres a sky dish out side with an old cable running off it.
i had a sky box that i no works so have decided to rig it up so he has a few channels at least
but we could not get any signal we tried a new run of cable still no good there was a neighbours sky dish right alongside it well about 10 ft 'could it be the lnb is faulty how likly
just thinking witch is best to do buy a new lnb or buy a signal finder any suggestions thanks for your time

Leave the box plugged in to see if it catches an update signal from sky before you do anything more.

If the dish is Aligned correctly and the LNB is Ok you will receive a signal on the box, check in the services menu, it could be the coax cable or even the outer strands touching the main copper cable, so you could try removing the F Connector and redoing the connection.
You could also try a Sat Meter.

If you have a Sly sub then you will have to tell them you have moved.

I'm willing to test it for you for free, but it all depends on where in the UK you are.
