what is the difference between say a darkmotor where the pole sits down and a stab where the pole is sitting upwards and any benenfits ?

haveing installed both types i find the stab version easier to install when up a ladder as it can take the weight of the dish but once they are installed i cant see any difference in performance although i personally prefere the stab although i havent ever owned or installed a darkmotor. regards mdt

I agree with the comments from "mdt? in reference to the stab motorand ease of fixing a dish when up a ladder.
The darkbox might be a little faster and has a slightly larger scan range than the stab.

      DoC
      from the darkmotor handbook
      max size of dish 1.2m
      Azimuth angle, 80east to 80west
      Speed, 1.9deg/sec @ 13v, 2.5deg/sec @18V
      from the stab handbook
      HH100 max dish size 100cm
      Azimuth angle +/- 70deg
      speed, 1.2deg/sec@13v & 1.8deg/sec@18V

no mate just put your location latitude on it.
I have always used technomate motors(the open end is down) and put the dish bracket without the dish itself on the stub 50mm from the bottom,I do do this on a bench as it much easier to get it exactly central.then I put a car exhaust clamp on the actual mounting pole before puting the motor/dish bracket up and resting on the exhaust clamp as this makes it easier to swing it L/R when tuning it in.I then mount the lnb holder and dish itself last.but pick a method you feel comfortable with.
I hate heights so try and mount mine with max height from a step ladder.

There is Not Difference, from a Physical and Technical prospect. Its all about Patents and designe.
